I played the remastered version. Really enjoyed the game, but was annoyed by stability problems while playing on my SteamDeck. Game crashed quite a bit and that is why I gave it an 8 instead of a 9. I liked the stealth aspects of the game and I especially liked trying to complete levels without killing anyone. The game animations are a little violent for no reason in particular. The game would still be fine for a teenager. I enjoyed the objectives of each level. I wish the upgrades you can unlock were a little better. The game was a nice stealth/2D platformer. I would recommend to anyone provided they fix the stability problems on the SteamDeck.

If you like metroidvania games, then i highly recommend adding this to your list to play. I think overall I liked it better than Hollow Knight, but I also thought it was a bit more difficult than Hollow Knight. I want games to be challenging, but I don’t know how I feel about repeating the same boss fight over and over. It handles the difficulty level by either being normal difficulty (super hard), or story mode. I was able to get through about 2/3 of the game in the normal difficulty, but in a moment of weakness on a boss I switched to story mode. Once you change to story mode you can’t switch back. Story mode allows you to change the damage you deal and the amount you take. I would prefer to just have multiple levels of difficulty to choose from at the beginning. I still recommend the game, but I would love the gameplay to be a bit easier. I am okay with a challenge, but I also recognize I am not the best at parrying, and that is what this game is all about. The graphics/artwork are amazing. The story is good. It is worth playing, but recognize ahead of time that the bosses are more difficult than Hollow Knight (in my opinion). Give it a try and don’t feel bad if you have to drop the difficulty, even though I still feel a bit bad about dropping it. Great game that I kind of sucked at.

This game is hard. Rewarding yet hard. Beating the game feels like a huge accomplishment. That said, it is hard enough that I’m not going to try to complete the hardest path of Hell. It’s fun and frustrating. Once you get the controls dialed in it is amazing what you can do. I completed it without using shortcuts and that felt huge. Best combo is the jet pack with the shotgun. Had a bunch of bombs (30+) and that made it easy to make a big hole to defeat Olmec. Once again, great and super hard game. Expect to die so many times.

Good game to use as a palette cleanser between more robust or longer games. I enjoyed the game loop of exploring, finding jewels, sell the jewels, upgrade gadgets. There are a few tweaks from the original, but it is just as enjoyable as the first game. Good game overall that I would recommend playing.

Just play this game! It is so good. The level design is great. It gives me a little bit of Super Meat Boy vibes. You die a lot trying to get past each level. I like how each level has its own unique challenge. I also appreciated the message of overcoming anxiety and depression. This game is my favorite one I have played this year. Having gotten to the credits, there is still a lot more I could do as far as replay-ability, but I feel satisfied enough to move to the next game. Great game and I would highly recommend.

Fun game and challenging. If you like vertical shooters then I would highly recommend this one. Frequent save states are the only way I got through this. I’m not great at old school bullet hell games and so there is now way I could have rolled credits without the saves. Well designed with different ships and with different upgrades and just fun.

Fun but did not hold up to my memory when I played this as a kid. I was surprised how big the game was and also surprised how tough the game would be without save states. It would be much easier with a map, which I recognize wasn’t standard at the time. The backtracking (metroidvania style) was a bit frustrating trying to figure where to go (there are some online maps). Some of the gameplay reflects the era where limitations make it so sometimes you can’t dodge an attack or aim a certain way. The difficulty really ramps up on the last level, but it is still doable and easy with save states. My memories of the game were better than the actual game, but I still wanted to see through to the end. Still would recommend playing.

Game was huge when it came out. This and the Legend of Zelda were incomprehensible for my 12 year old brain. This is the game that made me a gamer. It was a huge leap in what we thought games were. It was a blast to play again. Everyone interested in video game history needs to play this through at least once. A masterpiece for its time compared to anything else of that era.

Had this game as a kid. Was a blast to replay and relive memories of playing it. The game is shorter than I remember and easier (save states help a lot with that). I love the 8-bit music. Loved remembering how popular games were that had you play as a commando. If I wasn’t going down memory lane it is probably more of a 7, but I did give it a nostalgia point.

I just replayed a bit of my childhood. It’s funny that I still remembered where some items were hidden and also remembered the bosses. It is much easier with being able to save, but overall the game is quite easy. Beat it while watching tv and enjoyed the nostalgia and the 8-bit music. I played single player, but remembered playing 2-player as a kid. Should take just a couple hours (or less) to beat.

If it were an arcade I would have burned through a million quarters. I have played this so many times over so many years. My best memory of playing it was in the 90’s at an arcade in Guatemala. I have played it on my iPhone and now on my SteamDeck. The animations are fun and the old school bullet hell is fun. This is how games used to be. Hard and unforgiving and looking for you to pump in a ton of quarters. If you played with a limited number of credits it would be super hard. Overall I recommend for an afternoon to reminisce.

I don’t think there is a good way to describe what type of game this is. I didn’t have any idea of what to expect, I just knew it was recommended on a couple old Game Scoop episodes (I have been working my way through all the episodes). The game was innovative in ways that I had never experienced. Don’t look at any hints or videos of the game. Just play it. It may not be for everyone, but I loved it. It had me laughing out loud at certain parts. It was a joy to play. It is a short game, but that was perfect for me. Buy it on sale from Steam and you won’t regret it. Also, it says it is compatible with a SteamDeck, but I would recommend playing with a mouse and keyboard. It is much better with a mouse. Such a creative game! 4/12/26

I thoroughly enjoyed playing as a cowboy. I was surprised how I was totally engrossed with the game. I had bought Red Dead Redemption 2 and played it for about 30 minutes before deciding that I should start with the original. The graphics are decent for the age of the game. I played on the SteamDeck and it was stable 95% of the time, but there were times the game would crash when I put it to sleep. If playing on the SteamDeck I would recommend always saving before using sleep mode. The story is the best part of the game. I enjoyed the characters are the story arc. As the story unfolds in Mexico it didn’t make as much sense, but it still was okay overall. Towards the latter part of the game I stopped doing side quests because injustice wanted to follow the main story. Many of the side quests were funny and interesting, but I didn’t feel compelled to complete them all. I also did not care much for the gambling part of the game. It just felt like a time **** without much benefit. There are still a lot of content left in the game, but I am completely content with completing the main story. The game is worth playing for the main story. For parents, there is a lot of violence (unsurprisingly) and there is a decent amount of swearing (all the big swears are included). There is one short *** scene that is part of a cut scene that shows some brief nudity. It was unnecessary and I wish it wasn’t included. You can probably skip it but it happens so quickly I didn’t think of that. Overall I enjoyed the game and really enjoyed the ending. I would recommend to anyone that likes open world games and great storytelling. Completed on 4/7/26

How to summarize my experience with Persona 5? I loved it and at times hated it also. It is a great game but it takes way too long to play through. I would have been perfectly content without the bonus content in Royal. This is my first Persona game and it was a bit overwhelming and confusing what I was supposed to do. Also, beginning the game takes forever. I would say it was about 4 hours of tutorial before the game really gets going. With all these frustrations it was the story that kept me going. The story and the characters were the best part of the game. If the game was more in the 60-80 hours it would have been much better. The problem was that it kept dragging on. The combat becomes a bit repetitive and less enjoyable as the game goes on. The game design and the whole universe kept me going. The end of the conventional game without the bonus content would have been a good place for me to stop. The boss design was great and I loved the anime cut scenes. The only problem was the bonus content felt like it added another 30 hours. I enjoyed the final boss of the bonus content, but then even after that it felt like the game dragged on to get to the credits. If the game were just 20-30 hours faster it would be much better. It was great overall but too much of a time commitment. I think it realistically took 150 hours. Would still recommend with reservations. 3/22/26

I played Limbo earlier this year and finally got around to playing this. IGN gave it a 10, but I think a 9 is more appropriate because of how short it is. The game is moody and atmospheric like Limbo and it doesn’t really tell you what is going on. The puzzles are clever but didn’t take too long to figure out. I think the game went a little faster because I had recently played Limbo and the puzzles are somewhat similar. I think some of the Limbo puzzles were a bit harder. Towards the end of the game there is something that happens to your character and it is awesome. That was my favorite part of the game. Definitely recommend playing this one. It took about 3 hours to beat, but was so awesome. Great follow-up to Limbo

This is the best game I have played this year. I wish I had realized years ago how good the game was. My son was a huge fan and recommended it to me. It is one of the best Metreoidvania games I have ever played. The game was much larger and deeper than I expected. The map is huge and it is easy to get sucked in to playing hours on end. The game is difficult, but fair. You are able to level up your character, but the game is still challenging. The final boss isn’t that hard, but if you push and go fo*****ternate ending then the difficulty ramps up. There are 5 different endings, but I was content to just do two of them. The Radiance is definitely a hard boss and worthy of a final boss. I spent several hours until I had timings right to be the Radiance. I am ready to move on to a new game without doing the 112%, but I did get just over 100%. The only thing I would change about the game is the ability to warp more easily and to be able to always return to home. You do unlock a warp late in the game and I would have liked that earlier. That said, I loved this game and would highly recommend to anyone. When I’m up to it I look forward to Silksong. Overall I put about 50 hours into it.

I have long wanted to play the series and thought this is the game I should start on. I read a lot of recommendations to start on Fallout 4 or New Vegas, but I decided to start on 3 because I figured if I started on one of the newer ones that I wouldn’t go backwards to older ones. Overall I enjoyed the game. I put in a little over 40 hours, but at the end I was just looking to complete the main storyline. If I had played this when it came out I would have rated it higher. It’s not fair to judge it that way, but I can only rate it by my current experience. The game was great, but also shows its age. The graphics are fine, but everything is so drab and all the areas feel the same. The other thing I did too much was collectin****uch stuff as I can carry and then bringing it back to sell. It’s a dumb way to play the game and I need to change my play style be used I think it would be more fun not to constantly have to go back to town to sell off loot. Overall, I enjoyed the story. It is violent and does have strong language and so I wouldn’t recommend this to younger kids. I’m glad I played it because I feel like it sets me up to play more of these games in the franchise (when I am ready for another long game). I would recommend even with it being an older game.
Notes: I did play on the Steam Deck which ran it with no problems. Keyboard and mouse would be better, but I enjoyed playing it on the go. There is still a lot more content, but I am content with my experience.

Really good Metroidvania game. I played it for longer than expected because I was grinding to upgrade my character. The graphics are beautiful and the story, although convoluted, is good enough. I wish you could zoom in on the map a bit closer (I played on a SteamDeck) and that it was somehow more helpful in identifying what was there to help with upgrading your magic. I also wished there were better hints from the NPCs and a bit more guidance on the upgrade tree. Used guides a few times to help direct me when I was stumped. Tips for anyone playing: when you eat food it gives you permanent upgrades and so work on preparing new foods. With the magic you collect "shards" that unlock different spells. You can then upgrade them to a max level of 9. The tip is to not sell the ones you like because they become more powerful if you have it upgraded and have 9 on hand. I understood this far later than I would have liked. Overall a great game for anyone feeling nostalgic for a nice Metroidvania.
Of interest the creator helped make Castlevania Symphony of the Night

This is just a cool game. Just play it. I needed a palate cleanser after a long game and this was the perfect length. The game moves along at a good pace. The upgrades are fun and the story is interesting. I like the art/graphic style. Gameplay isn’t too hard, but you can make it harder through the use of shrines which also increases rewards. My weapons of choice were the Dueling Pistols and the Flame Bellows. Overall, this is a great game and I’m happy I finally beat it.

This is a massive game that I really loved for the first 15-20 hours and then it felt a little repetitive I as progressed from there. I loved the graphics and the story. For anyone reading this I would recommend focusing on the main story so you don’t burn yourself out. There are too many things to do in the game that will eventually catch up with you. I spent too much time exploring Howarts and eventually that made it tedious trying to do anything in the castle. The story itself was cool and the world they created was amazing. I didn’t like the gear system because it seemed like I would constantly get gear that wasn’t any good and I either had to destroy it or sell it. I also thought the money system didn’t seem too valuable as there wasn’t great stuff to buy. I also thought the Merlin trials should have been made as better puzzles (think Zelda) and fewer of them. Overall the game was great, but as time wore on it seemed like the same thing over and over. I really liked the main story and the final sequence was great.
