Apple TV: First Trailer for "Neuromancer"

It has been known since spring that Apple TV is producing an adaptation of William Gibson's classic "Neuromancer". A series is planned that will faithfully implement the book, which was first published in 1984 and popularized the term "Cyberspace". The novel is considered difficult to film, and previous attempts have failed. Now, Apple is showing a first trailer for the series at San Diego Comic Con (SDCC).

A bit of "The Matrix"

The trailer is just over a minute long and, unlike the previously available "In production" clip from March, it contains actual film scenes for the first time. Apple itself calls the clip a "Teaser", but it gives a first, quite good impression of what the company is planning together with its studio partners.

The colors in "Neuromancer" already convey an impression of what awaits the viewers: We are in a dystopian, dark environment that visually resembles the first part of "The Matrix". Chiba, the urban starting point of "Neuromancer", is recognizable with its monorail, even if the place is actually much sleepier than Tokyo. We see British actor Callum Turner interacting with this environment as hacker Case. He has a direct connection to cyberspace: you plug in via a socket in your head.

Molly, Armitage – and the question of cyberspace

Molly, who assists Case as his "muscle", is also seen in the trailer. Like in the book, she has mirrored glasses over her eyes (strangely, also sunglasses at one point) and the famous claws that she can extend like knives. We also see action scenes, hear (and apparently see) the character of Armitage, and experience, at least briefly, a "Jack in" process. However, it is not possible to tell from the trailer what cyberspace actually looks like.

It is already clear that "Neuromancer" will be available on Apple TV starting January 22nd. It is not yet clear how many episodes are planned. Graham Roland ("Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan," "Dark Winds") and JD Dillard ("Devotion," "The Outsider," "Sleight") are set to produce the adaptation. William Gibson himself retweeted the trailer on X, but has not yet commented directly.
