Hello!

I started on Find-a-Grave in October 2015.

I have received training from and volunteered for the Rhode Island Historic Cemetery Commission (RIHCC). I have also completed a project for Rhode Island College based upon my fieldwork.

Throughout 2015 and 2016, I had been exploring and documenting the nearly 100 historic cemeteries within Johnston. My focus was on those which had not yet been added to FindaGrave. Since then, as time allows, I have continued the Johnston effort as a hobby, and reviewed the accuracy of of other FindaGrave cemeteries statewide.

Any edits, suggestions, questions, etc. are welcome!

MAIN CONTRIBUTIONS:
~~Rhode Island Cemetery Listings~~
I've made sure that every historical cemetery in the state [that I know of] is now listed on Find-a-Grave under both its common name (e.g. "John Smith Lot") and its state-designated name (e.g. "Rhode Island Historical Cemetery Johnston #1"). The result: ANY cemetery in Rhode Island can now be located with just a town name and number in FindaGrave's search box.
As of October 2024, I'd say this is 99% complete! Just waited for some pending corrections to be accepted and some edge cases.
I've also been checking that cemetery GPS coordinates [if known] are added and accurate, and that all known names of those buried in historical cemeteries are included.

~~Johnston Photos~~
I upload my photos for persons in Johnston who:
- do not already have an equivalent photo.
- have a noticeably-outdated photo.
- have a poor quality photo.

I generally do not upload my photos for persons who:
- already have a clear, up-to-date photo (though I'd still be glad to if you submit a photo request or email).

*Not every single photo I post is personally taken. However, sources are properly cited in the comments and they're posted for educational/research purposes only.

~~Sources~~
I get my information from a mix of sources:
- personal fieldwork (visiting sites in-person)
- residents, caretakers, and relatives I meet while onsite
- the RIHCC database
- other Find-A-Grave members
- James Arnold's cemetery records catalog (late 1800s)
__________

Some personal ancestry info:
Lineage: Italian, Welch, Scottish
Associated surnames: Hobson, Hogan, Santopietro/Pietrosanta, Whitton/Whitten, DeRobbio/DiRobbio/D'Robbio, Rapa/Rappa
Ancestors' US states: RI, AL, AR, GA
