Bio
I am a history buff, especially Memphis history. I have an interest in Memphis entrepreneurs, philanthropists and notorious citizens.
People often ask why I enjoy graving:
1. I love history. Beneath every headstone is a story, and someone worthy of remembering.
2. Cemeteries are rarely crowded.
3. Cemeteries never charge admission.
4. Cemeteries are generally nice, clean and well kept. Like a very nice walk in the park.
5. Genealogy should be free. I hope the stuff I post is helpful to others.
My favorite FindaGrave project was finding all the co-conspirators associated with the Memphis Chapter of the Tennessee Children's Home Society (1927-1950). Georgia Tann, the infamous "Baby Thief" and Black Market kidnapper, seller (and killer) of children was the head of one of the darkest parts of Memphis history. She, and her story are not ‘famous' according to Find-A-Grave, although she stole, sold, trafficked and caused the deaths of over 5,000 children. (More lives effected than Al Capone even thought about).
Mary Tyler Moore won an Emmy award for her portrayal of Tann in the television movie, "Stolen Babies," 1993.
• Georgia Tann
• Judge Camille Kelley Juvenile Court Judge who removed parental rights, and gave Georgia the papers needs to traffic children.
• Abe Waldauer Memphis City Attorney under Boss Crump who changed laws to keep the Home running. Also, Georgia Tann's personal attorney.
• Boss E. H. Crump The Political Clout, and Memphis Mayor.
• Ann Atwood Hollinsworth Lesbian lover and adopted daughter of Georgia Tann, and Part Time helper at the home.
