Helldivers 2 PC Version Now 85% Smaller After Huge File Size Reduction
Arrowhead Game Studios has announced great news for Helldivers 2 players on Steam — the game now takes up much less space on SSDs and HDDs, going from 154 GB down to just 23 GB. That’s an 85% reduction in size.
This isn’t magic — it’s the result of detailed optimization work done by the developers, with help from Nixxes, the Sony studio known for PC conversions. Thanks to their efforts, the PC version now matches the storage size of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S editions.
A Slimmer Version Is Already Available on Steam
According to the Steam update, this major reduction was achieved through complete file de-duplication. Internal tests show that loading times will barely be affected, with only a few seconds difference on both SSDs and HDDs (used by about 11% of players).
The optimized version of Helldivers 2 is currently in testing to ensure full compatibility, but you can already download it in beta.
To try it:
- Open your Steam client and go to your Library.
- Right-click on Helldivers 2 and select Properties.
- In the Beta tab, choose "prod_slim" from the dropdown menu.
- Wait for the download to finish, and you’re good to go.
