San Francisco police training experts will be asked to look at the phenomenon of "washout" in which police sirens can cancel each other out and cause confusion amongst several patrol cars involved in a pursuit.
A recent patrol-car smash-up in the city has spurred the move. San Francisco Police Chief Fred Lau says his department will look at a Los Angeles rule that allows only one patrol car to go on "code 3" during a chase. The Los Angeles Police Department has a long-standing policy of restricting emergency -- "Code 3" -- lights-and-siren calls to one, primary squad car. Read SFGate.com article
