Isekai anime are some of the most popular in the medium. The anime industry has released many series that fall under its umbrella in recent years. These series share many tropes, namely having an overpowered — usually male — protagonist be transported to another world and upstage everybody in it, often by fighting. They usually feature plenty of action magic, with power systems and battles.
Not all isekai are focused on fighting; slower-paced slice-of-life isekai exist, though they may be harder to find. Slice-of-life isekai anime series delve into new worlds in a relaxing way and highlight the characters, their development, and their relationships. They're rare to come by and often aren't as popular as the classic isekai titles, but for fans who prefer a slower pace and more character-driven plotlines, slice-of-life isekai are a must-watch.

A Journey Through Another World: Raising Kids While Adventuring is one such title, combining classic isekai elements with a sweet story of found family. In this series, 28-year-old Takumi Kayano is reincarnated into a fantasy world with a slew of amazing new powers. However, he isn't the only overpowered hero in this world, as he soon meets a pair of young twins with incredible physical strength.
Raising Kids While Adventuring follows Takumi as he takes siblings Allen and Elena under his wing, teaching them everything he knows as they embark on an epic journey together. Though the series follows a standard isekai premise, it delves more into the everyday adventures of Takumi and his new kids, rather than the quest itself. The story is simple and not very deep, but it's enjoyable all the same. Takumi's dynamic with Allen and Elena is nothing short of adorable, and watching them grow into a true family is a joy.
Airing during the Summer 2024 season, Dahlia in Bloom is one of the more recent slice-of-life isekai anime to come out. Though it's been widely overlooked by anime fans, it's a great addition to the subgenre and an inspirational tale of pursuing one's passions. Like many isekai series, it begins with a nameless heroine who dies a sudden and tragic death, only to be reborn in a fantasy world. Here, Dahlia Rosetti aims to use her past life knowledge to become a skilled magic artificer just like her father.
However, as she grows older, Dahlia experiences many hardships that put her to the test. The series follows her as she overcomes each obstacle and works hard to make her dreams come true. Though it has a much slower pace than the usual action isekai, Dahlia in Bloom keeps things interesting with its character-driven story and relationship drama. Dahlia's struggles are both compelling and relatable, and her crafting skills make for a unique twist that allows this underrated title to stand out.
In the Land of Leadale is a Winter 2022 anime series that brings a wholesome twist to the classic MMORPG isekai. The series starts like any other typical isekai, with a young protagonist who reincarnates into the world of her favorite VRMMORPG, a game called Leadale. Once here, she discovers that 200 years have passed and the world she once knew has changed, prompting her to set out on an adventure to re-discover the land.
But despite this premise, In the Land of Leadale doesn't focus on an action-packed quest or a fight to defeat evil. Instead, the series follows its heroine Keina on her everyday adventures through the changed world. The series has a bit of action here and there, but it usually keeps things going at a slow and steady pace, focusing more on Keina and those she meets along her journey. There's no real overarching plot, and there's little to no world-building. It's just a simple, feel-good story with a likable cast and a laid-back tone.

In most isekai anime series, the protagonist is usually one of the strongest warriors around, if not the strongest. They tend to have a massive amount of power, defeating enemies left and right like it's nothing. However, this isn't always the case. Sometimes the series' hero turns out to be the weakest of all. In Chillin' in Another World With Level 2 Super Cheat Powers, Banaza is summoned to a magical world where he is tasked with fighting against a great evil. Unfortunately for him, he quickly discovers that he has no powers whatsoever.
After he's rejected for his lack of ability, Banaza finds himself stuck in this new world. But rather than complain about his predicament, he decides to work hard and create a new life for himself. Chillin' in Another World is a relaxing slice-of-life following Banaza as he settles into life in his new world, makes new friends, and carves a path for himself. Though the stakes are low and there's little action, the series is a fun and wholesome watch, and Banaza makes for a very relatable and endearing protagonist.

Parallel World Pharmacy's Protagonist Uses His Past-Life Medical Genius to Help Others
Though Parallel World Pharmacy is far from the only medical isekai out there, it manages to stand out as one of the most memorable and unique. Isekai Izakaya: Japanese Food From Another World is a highly underrated isekai series with a similar premise to the more popular Restaurant to Another World. The story takes place at Nobu, a traditional Japanese restaurant serving tasty anime dishes for patrons of all kinds. Although this restaurant looks no different from any other, it's surprisingly unique.
Isekai Izakaya was overlooked by everyone despite being a deliciously good cooking isekai.
Despite its unassuming appearance, Nobu is a portal to another world. It acts as a hub for various types of creatures and magical beings, who all travel to the restaurant to partake in its delicious cuisine. Isekai Izakaya: Japanese Food From Another World follows the everyday adventures of head chef Nobuyuki and waitress Shinobu as they serve up tasty food for patrons who are out of this world.
Izakaya “Nobu” is a modest establishment, staffed by only two people: master, Nobuyuki Yazawa, and server, Shinobu Senke. Despite the series' setting and premise, Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear is a slice-of-life at its core. Though the story follows Yuna on various adventures, the main focus is on her everyday adventures with her new friends. It's one of the most adorable isekai out there and is perfect for those looking for a more wholesome and relaxing series.
The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! is a reverse isekai series starring one of the most adorable demons in all of anime. In her old life, Jahy reigned as one of the strongest demons in the Dark Realm. However, after the mana crystal was destroyed, her life at the top came to an end, and she was forced to take refuge on Earth in a pitiful, childlike form that was hardly intimidating.
Though she was once a cruel ruler, Jahy now has to live among humans, working part-time and paying rent just like everyone else. Her life may be in shambles now, but Jahy dreams of regaining her former glory and vows to restore the mana crystal to make it happen. This cute and hilarious series follows Jahy's daily life as she struggles to fit in on Earth and make her way into the world.
Despite its name, I've Been Killing Slimes is far from the typical fantasy adventure typically associated with isekai. Instead, this wholesome series stars overpowered protagonist Azusa Aizawa, who overworked herself to death in her previous life and has now been blessed with immortality in a magical world. While most overpowered heroes would take this opportunity to go on some epic adventure, Azusa wants nothing more than to live her immortal days in peace on her farm.
I've Been Killing Slimes is a calm and relaxing series that follows Azusa's daily life as she tends to her plants, kills weak slime monsters that invade her garden, and forms friendships with those she meets along the way. Despite its fantasy setting and superpowered main heroine, there's little to no fighting involved in this story. Instead, the series focuses on Azusa and her relationship with the supporting cast.
The Devil is a Part-Timer! is probably one of the most popular slice-of-life isekai series around. Although it came out in the early 2010s, it remains a beloved title within the genre. Focusing more on comedy than action, this series stars Sadao Maou, a now-powerless demon who once reigned as the Demon Lord of the underworld.
But after a crushing defeat at the hands of his greatest foe, Sadao was forced to leave his home and go into hiding on Earth. Now living with no power in a world without magic, he disguises himself as a human and begins working at a local fast-food joint to make ends meet. Sadao's hilarious everyday adventures begin as he works toward his new goal of corporate world domination, with The Devil is a Part-Timer! making for one of the funniest shōnen adventures yet.
