Frogg Moody has had a decades long involvement in Ripperology in all of the most well known organizations and events. Frogg was born in Salisbury, Wiltshire. In 2004 he formed Timezone Productions to research and record social history and historical events through publishing, guided walks, theatre, lectures and exhibitions. Lauren Davies is a researcher and historian of women's history, the co-host of the history podcast "Transatlantic History Ramblings with Lauren and Brian" and is a Medieval Studies Masters student from Swansea in South Wales. She has over the past few years developed an interest in the stories of women across a broad spectrum of history and their encounters with the criminal justice system of their period. Dr Andrea Nini- A forensic linguistic analysis of the Jack the Ripper letters

Dr Andrea Nini is a Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor in Linguistics and English Language at the University of Manchester. In 2018, Dr. Nini published An Authorship analysis of the Jack the Ripper letters in Digital Scholarship in the Humanities, in which he analyzed 209 letters and postcards sent to police and newspapers that claimed to have been written by ‘Jack the Ripper’ and concluded that several were journalistic hoaxes, supporting the claims made by Sir Robert Anderson, Melville Macnaughten and Detective Chief Inspector Littlechild.

Daniel Smith, the author of The Peer and the Gangster: A Very British Cover-up.

In July 1964, the Sunday Mirror ran a front-page story headlined: PEER AND A GANGSTER: YARD ENQUIRY. While the article withheld the names of the subjects, the newspaper reported that the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police had ordered an investigation into an alleged homosexual relationship between ‘a household name’ from the House of Lords and a leading figure in the London underworld. Lord Boothby was the Conservative lord in question, and Ronnie Kray the infamous gangster. Yet within a couple of weeks the story had been killed off, vanishing as suddenly as it had appeared. Lord Boothby and the Krays carried on with business as usual. For the first time the full saga of the cover-up and its consequences can be revealed. Drawing upon recently released MI5 files, government papers, extensive interviews, and a wide array of contemporary reports and secondary sources, Daniel Smith pieces together how eminent figures from the political firmament, the Security Service, the Metropolitan Police, the legal profession and the media saw to it that the Sunday Mirror’s story was crushed almost as soon as it emerged.

Dr Andrea Nini is a Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor in Linguistics and English Language at the University of Manchester. In 2018, Dr. Nini published An Authorship analysis of the Jack the Ripper letters in Digital Scholarship in the Humanities, in which he analyzed 209 letters and postcards sent to police and newspapers that claimed to have been written by ‘Jack the Ripper’ and concluded that several were journalistic hoaxes, supporting the claims made by Sir Robert Anderson, Melville Macnaughten and Detective Chief Inspector Littlechild.

This 22 year old audience recording was rescued from a second hand bookshop by Mark Ripper and we are grateful to Mark for saving this piece of Ripperology history so that we may share it with you.

Originally recorded on a 120 minute long cassette tape and sometime later transferred to CD, this recording is beginning to show its age, but its historical value outweighs the deteriorating quality of the audio.

The Poisoner tells the story of William Palmer, hanged in 1856 before a crowd of 30,000 people for the murder of his best friend. An outwardly respectable Midlands doctor from a prosperous family, Palmer and his trial were a media sensation, heightening middle class fears about the insidiousness of poisoning as a new method of murder. Palmer was the first person ever to be convicted of using strychnine as a method of murder. He became known as the Prince of Poisoners, suspected of murdering at least a dozen people and Charles Dickens, who covered his case, described him as the greatest villain who ever stood trial in the Old Bailey. Even Queen Victoria followed the story, as her journal shows. But how many people did he really kill - and was his guilt ever proved? Stephen Bates's original research into the 160-year-old notorious murder case uncovered intriguing new information about the story.

In the 1840s the popular image of a typical poisoner was a woman who put arsenic in her husband's food. The 1850s, however, saw a new kind of poisoner come to public attention. Male, middle class, educated,disarmingly respectable, he killed in a clever scientific fashion, often using the less common kinds of poison, and unusual ways of administration. He might even be a medical man, the very person one was supposed to trust, giving poison to his trusting victim in the guise of medicine. Linda Stratmann will describe the sensational trials that alerted the public to what appeared to be a frightening new threat. As poison trails became more complex, expert witnesses, especially the forensic toxicologist who had become courtroom stars, began to find that a day in court could both make and destroy a promising career.
