Possibly derived from the Slavic elements danŭ "given" and mirŭ "peace, world" [1] [2] . Otherwise, it might be of Turkic or Russian origin (see Damir 2). It was popularized by a character from Marija Jurić Zagorka's novel Gordana (1935).
