Introduction

gmusicbrowser is an open-source jukebox for large collections of mp3/ogg/flac/mpc/ape files, written in perl.

Features

Some of the features gmusicbrowser includes are:

  • Supports various backend audio engines, such as mpg123, MPlayer, ?GStreamer.

  • Supports ogg vorbis, mp3 and flac files (and mpc/ape with gstreamer or mplayer), m4a support planned in upcoming versions.
  • Intended for large (> 10,000 files) audio libraries.

  • Customizable window layouts.
  • Powerful browser which doesn't interfere with the playlist
  • Extensive plugin architecture, with included plugins for last.fm/libre.fm scrobbling,cover art finder/downloader, lyrics lookup, etc..

Installing

To install gmusicbrowser on your computer run the following command as root:

aptitude install gmusicbrowser

This will install gmusicbrowser from official Debian repositories. Its developers also provide a very basic and unofficial repository for gmusicbrowser, which can be enabled by adding the following line into your sources.list file:

deb http://gmusicbrowser.org/deb ./

To play mp3 and flac files you need to install a couple of extra packages (described here:

aptitude install mpg321 vorbis-tools

Additional layouts

Additional window layouts can be downloaded and placed into the ~./config/gmusicbrowser/layouts folder.
