The Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI) plans to celebrate the National Statistics and Planning Day (NSPD2020) on 22 October 2020 as well as the World Statistics Day 2020 on 20 October 2020 in I.R.Iran. Because of the happy coincidence of these two statistical occasions, the SCI has decided to celebrate them in the form of Statistics and Planning Week from 17 to 22 October 2020, aiming at covering both of them. For this purpose, several programs have been developed to attach the importance of the role of the statistics to informed and evidence-based planning and policymaking at the regional and national levels. One of these activities is to celebrate Statistics and Planning Week. Accordingly, each day of the Week has been given a name/theme as follows. The selected daily themes are as follows:

1. Saturday, 17 October: Promoting awareness and statistical literacy,
2. Sunday, 18 October: Institutionalizing Modernization of National Statistical System(NSS) and Register-based NSS,
3. Monday, 19 October: Statistics and Research, Holding a special panel discussion in the form of a webinar,
4. Tuesday, 20 October: Statistics and Media, The presence of the SCI officials in the media,
5. Wednesday, 21 October: Official Statistics and public trust in statistics,
6. Thursday, 22 October: Statistics and Planning.

In line with these themes, a wide range of activities such as interviews with the National Radio and TV channels, interviews with other Iranian mass media and press, holding a webinar under the theme of statistics and research as well as holding a virtual meeting for the concerned government agencies to unveil the SCI achievement on registering the population of mobile nomads in the country are among the planned activities that will be implemented during this week. These activities are carried out in collaboration with the Statistical Research and Training Centre (SRTC), Iranian Statistical Society, Universities nationwide, and Judicial Research Centre.

1. Translation of World Statistics Day 2020 Logo into Persian and posting it on the National Statistics Portal
2. Designing Special Poster carrying the World Statistics Day Logo
3. Developing a subsite on the National Statistics Portal dedicated to reflecting the SCI and its collaborating partners’ activities on celebrating these occasions
4. Posting message of Dr. Javad Hosseizadeh, Deputy Head of Plan and Budget Organization and Head of Statistical Centre of Iran on celebrating National Statistics and Planning Day as well as WSD2020
5. Translation of messages of Mr. Antonioi by António Guterres , Secretary-General, United Nations, Mr.Stefan Schweinfest, Director, United Nations Statistics Division and Mr. Shigeru into Persian as well as posting them on the Statistics and Planning Day subsite in the National Statistical Portal
6. A history of the National Statistics and Planning Day and World Statistics Day.
