Embedded world 2020 is the trade fair for embedded systems technology. Given the rapid miniaturisation of hardware and the increasing scope of high performance computing, thousands of exhibitors use the show to take the stage and show off their work. This year Canonical is returning to discuss how to make embedded Linux, more developer-friendly and more secure. Some of the highlights on the booth:

  • the secure by default, developer-friendly platform Ubuntu Core,
  • Ubuntu running as a service OS on ACRN
  • the Smart Start field-tested methodology for getting embedded IoT projects off the ground and to market fast.

Arrange a meeting

During the show, Canonical’s Taiten Peng, will be talking Embedded Software Development CI/CD on Ubuntu on Wednesday, February the 26th. In his talk, Taiten will look at how to apply agile software development practices to the Embedded space. In particular, he will explain how a combination of pre-certified boards and snap packages allows embedded developers to use continuous integration and continuous deployment all the way to remote devices, for rapid security released without stress.

Embedded Software Development CI/CD on Ubuntu at Embedded World 2020

Ubuntu Core, is enabled on a wide range of devices from leading manufacturers like Dell, Rigado, Intel, Qualcomm, Samsung and NXP. Using a pre-enabled and certified board greatly reduces the cost and time of appliance development. Customers focus entirely on their applications, with the base system enablement and security maintenance provided by Canonical throughout the lifetime of the device. Customers do not need to integrate and rebuild the OS for security maintenance, but they can control the distribution of Canonical updates to Ubuntu with their own certification and testing regime.

Ubuntu Core brings the principles of continuous deployment right to the edge. Snap channels enable automatic beta testing and canary updates. Travis integration and a multi-architecture build service ensure that the same CI/CD train can support identical apps across x86, and ARM architectures with both 32 and 64-bit snaps and simultaneous update releases.
