Reflect on your journey

  • Review your current channel strategy relative to your channel goals, is there a mismatch?
  • Prioritize your excitement and passion.
  • Find inspiration from other creators or types of content you enjoy.
  • Leverage your strengths and see how you can bring them to the new area.

Understand your audience

  • Observe what's trending through Google Trends and what people are watching in the audience tab of Analytics, find the intersection of "what is popular" and "what you love."
  • Monitor your performance to drive content strategy changes (did subscriber or watch time grow or drop when you tested with different topics?).
  • Engage your audience to gauge their quick feedback and interest on new content ideas through your community space.

Launch the pivot

  • Define success metrics and consider metrics beyond just views or watch time, such as new subscribers or changes in new, casual, or regular viewers.
  • Consider a gradual pivot, by taking smaller steps first and supplement new content with old content.
  • Prepare several videos in advance in your content bank, experiment with different tools and different content formats (Shorts, Podcasts, Live, Members-only content, etc.).
  • Communicate clearly to your fans, create an announcement video about the style of your new content or channel, and use video descriptions, cards, endscreens, and community features to strengthen this message.
  • Be patient, it can take time (months, not weeks) to see true results, and respond to any audience feedback along the way.
  • If you have a clear vision for a new idea, and want to experiment in a separate space without impacting your existing core audience, consider creating a second channel for this new content (take into account the additional time, effort, and costs).
