Fix issues with Content Credentials on Pixel Camera
You can verify how an image was created or edited with your Pixel camera. Content Credentials uses metadata attached to an image that describes the image’s history.
This is part of Google’s efforts to prevent misinformation. Learn more about how Google Photos helps you identify how photos were made.
Understand Content Credentials requirements
Important: To add Content Credentials data to photos taken on Pixel Camera, make sure your phone and Camera app meet the requirements listed below.
If Content Credentials aren’t applied when you take the photo, you can’t add them later.
- To ensure secure and accurate Content Credentials from Pixel Camera, you’ll need a Pixel 10 or later phone with the following:
- An up to date, unmodified version of Android
- Internet connection within the last 2 weeks
Here are some reasons why Content Credentials might not work:
- Unsupported modes: Content Credentials are only supported in some photo modes and not supported for videos.
- Offline usage:
- If you’ve taken photos offline, Content Credentials might not work.
- It won’t work if you haven’t connected your phone to the internet since the last time you rebooted it.
- Outdated security updates: If your Android version is out of date, Content Credentials might not work.
Tip: Your photos aren’t uploaded to Google's servers for Content Credentials.
Learn about Content Credentials metadata
Content Credentials metadata includes device information, make and model, and image edits. It doesn't include your personal information such as location or Google Account details. Content Credentials cannot be used to identify you, either by someone looking at one or more of your photos or by Google.
Content Credentials provide details about a photo’s origin and history through an industry standard that works across devices and apps from different companies. These details include information from the app or device maker about AI or non-AI tools used to create or edit a photo.
Content Credentials can’t tell you if a photo is real or fake, but you can use the information along with the photo’s content to make informed decisions. Images with Content Credentials metadata may still be affected by advanced methods used to tamper with photos.
