Troubleshoot connection issues with Google Meet
You can try the steps below to fix connection issues with Google Meet.

Verify service status
Check official status dashboards- On your computer, go to the Google Workspace Status Dashboard.
- In the list of services, find Google Meet.
- Check these icons for current status:
- Green: Available
- Orange: Service disruption
- Red: Service outage
Check your own connection status
Check for in-app alerts- In your Google Meet call, click More options .
- Select Troubleshooting & help.
- For real-time information about your connection's performance, review the Network stability graph and other diagnostics.
Reduce local system strain
Close unnecessary apps & browser tabs- Outside of the Google Meet window, close any software that isn’t essential for your meeting.
- For example, close high-power or high-bandwidth apps like:
- Streaming services
- Video games
- Cloud backup clients

- Close any non-essential browser tabs.
- Check your system for:
- Active file downloads
- Software updates
- Cloud file synchronization like Google Drive or Dropbox
- Pause these activities for the duration of your meeting.
Exit & rejoin a meeting
- In the bottom control bar, click Leave call .
- To enter the same meeting again, on the screen that appears, click Rejoin.
Restart your computer or mobile device
- During a Google Meet call, save your open work.
- Restart your device.
- After the reboot, rejoin the meeting.

Update your browser
To get the latest software fixes, learn how to update:
Restart Chrome browserWhen you close Chrome after you update, it doesn’t fix the issue. The apps or extensions that use your microphone don’t reset. To reset these apps or extensions, restart Chrome.
- In your browser, enter
chrome://restart- When you restart Chrome, your tabs and windows reopen.
- Turn on your microphone and camera.
- Rejoin the video meeting.
Update your Operating System
- On Windows: Click Settings and then Update & Security and then Windows Update and then Check for updates.
- On macOS:
- Click System Settings and then General and then Software Update.
- Install any available updates.
Clear browser cache & data
Clear your browser cache- To clear your browsing data, click Settings.
- In Chrome: Click Settings and then Privacy and security and then Clear browsing data.
- Click Cached images and files.
- Choose a time range.
- For example, you can choose the last 24 hours.
- Click Clear data.
- Restart your browser.
Disable browser extensions
Temporarily disable extensions- In your browser, go to the extensions management page.
- In Chrome: More options and then Extensions and then Manage Extensions.
- To temporarily disable all extensions like ad blockers or privacy-related tools, use the toggle switch.
- Restart your browser.
- Try Google Meet again.
Temporarily disconnect from VPN or proxy
- Open your VPN client software.
- Disconnect from the VPN server.
- In your system’s network settings, disable any proxy settings in your system's network settings.
- Try to rejoin the Google Meet call with a direct internet connection.
Turn off video to improve your connection
If your connection is poor, to turn off your video, click the Camera Camera. This significantly reduces the amount of bandwidth your connection uses to stabilize your audio.
