Use prompt assistance in AI image editor

Prompt assistance lets you auto-generate or refine prompts to create content. This article explains how to use prompt refinement and auto-generated AI image editor features in Google Ads.

Before you begin

Google restricts which advertisers have access to manually prompted image generation. To verify access, check that your account:

Is active and has been running ads for at least 30 days
Has a history of policy compliance
Has not completed Election Advertising Verification
Is not advertising in a sensitive vertical (for example, sexual and political ads)

How it works

Prompt assistance adds 2 new features to improve your prompting experience:

Prompt refinement: Prompt refinement analyzes your initial prompt and suggests improvements to make it more detailed. This allows the AI image editor to generate images that better fit user intent.
Auto-generated text prompts: Once you select a starter image and remove the background, a prompt suggestion will generate based on the image. This gives you a starting point and example to write your prompt for the best results.

Get started with auto-generated text prompts

Go to Asset library within the Tools menu Tools Icon .
Select a starter image. In the editing panel, select Replace background. A detailed and relevant prompt will automatically populate in the text box.
Review the suggested prompt. You can either:
- Proceed with the suggested prompt as-is.
- Modify the suggested prompt to your liking.
- Select the Refine button to refine the auto-generated prompt to add details.

This pre-filled prompt serves as a starting point, demonstrating the level of detail and specificity needed to achieve a high-quality background replacement.

Specific details are needed to achieve a high-quality background replacement. Below are examples of auto-generated text prompts and the images created from them.

Examples

A vibrant summer background with lush green foliage, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

A scenic mountain road that draws eyes to the car with snow-capped peaks in the background, emphasizing a sense of adventure.

Revise your prompts with prompt refinement

Go to Asset library within the Tools menu Tools Icon .
Select the blue + New button, hover over "Image", and select Generate and edit with AI.
Enter your initial prompt in the text box and select the Refine button. Google AI will rewrite your prompt with added details.
Review the refined prompt. You can either:
- Proceed with the refined prompt.
- Modify the refined prompt to your liking.
- Select Revert to remove the rewritten text and return to your original prompt.

You can also select the Refine button multiple times, letting you continue to enhance the prompt. Below are examples of initial prompts and their refined outputs:
