About Brand Recommendations in Google Ads

Brand recommendations, a series of cards in Google Ads, helps you drive improvements across awareness & brand consideration campaign types to meet your business objectives. Optimize bidding and budgets, targeting, creative, measurement, and more.

Brand recommendations, powered by Google AI, automatically generate actionable cards based on your account's history, your campaign settings, and trends across Google to help you more efficiently meet your goals.

Brand Optiscore is a new score that aims to help advertisers prioritize recommendations for their brand campaigns, making them easier to find and potentially encouraging the adoption of best practices. For advertisers running both performance and brand campaigns in the same account, this could also allow for a better comparison of their overall health.

Benefits of Brand Recommendations

  • Personalized: Recommendations aim to improve campaign performance by inferring your goals from your specific setup.
  • Instant: Quickly navigate to brand recommendations by selecting video campaigns as a filter in Google Ads and then navigating to the recommendations tab.
  • Actionable: Easily apply brand recommendations in the recommendations tab. Brand recommendations are not currently scored.

View and Apply Brand Recommendations

  1. Go to Recommendations within the Campaign menu.
  2. You can then view the recommendations for your campaigns.
  3. To apply recommendations, select View recommendation for the option you want to apply to existing campaigns
  4. Follow the details of the selected recommendation to apply them.

Auto-apply Brand Recommendations

  1. Go to Recommendations within the Campaign menu.
  2. Select "Auto-apply" on the right side of the screen.
  3. Select the drop down of the recommendation you wish to apply.
  4. You can then select the checkboxes for the recommendations you wish to auto apply.
    1. You can also select the Select all button to automatically apply all recommendations of a recommendation type.

Dismiss Brand Recommendations

You can remove a recommendation if you do not want to apply it. This removes the recommendation from your list.

  1. Go to Recommendations within the Campaign menu.
  2. Select View recommendation for the recommendation you want to remove.
  3. Select Dismiss all to remove all the recommendations.

There are currently five categories of brand recommendations to help optimize brand campaigns.

Bidding & Budgets

Bidding and budgets recommendations can help advertisers find the right bid strategy to meet their business goals and help ensure that ad campaigns aren’t limited by bids or budgets. These recommendations are intended to help advertisers improve ROI and utilize budgets in the most optimal way.

tCPM Budget Raising for Flighted Budgets

tCPM customers who raise budgets gain more potential traffic which can lead to more impressions. Advertisers can view the suggested budget and change it to other budget recommendations in the budget table. The suggested budget is based on the amount of viable traffic in the last week.

Raise budgets for CPV flighted campaigns

This recommends advertisers to raise CPV budgets to ensure your ads are getting as many views as possible.

Raise your tCPM bids

If you would like to optimize your campaigns to maximize video impressions, applying this recommendation will raise your tCPM bids and get your ads to show more often.

Ads & Assets

This recommendation is intended to improve creative excellence and have better ads and assets in your campaigns.

Add bumper ads to eligible campaigns

By adding bumper ads, you can increase your unique reach, ad recall, and brand awareness, all at a similar or lower cost.

Add videos in different aspect ratios

You can add videos in different aspect ratios to serve across new inventory and help get more conversions.

Create a new video reach campaign

This recommends adding a new video reach tCPM campaign to expand reach, and leverages settings from successful conversion campaigns and audience expansion to ensure you can reach people that are likely to convert in the future.

Add formats to VRC 2.0 Campaigns

This recommends adding Shorts & Feed to an in-stream only VRC 2.0 campaign. Using a mix of all 3 drives more unique reach on average than those using in-stream ads only.

Keywords & Targeting

Keywords and targeting recommendations help advertisers expand their campaign reach and audience.

Expand your audiences

You can opt into audience expansion, which includes similar audiences to those that are currently converting well.

Create a new ad group for a broader audience

This recommendation appears when an advertiser has ad groups with both audience and contextual targeting, which can limit ad serving.

Reach additional audiences on partner sites and apps

This recommendation appears when an advertiser has video ads with potential to drive additional traffic to Google video partners.

Measurement

Measurement recommendations can help advertisers improve their account’s data quality so that changes can be made to improve account and campaign performance.

Link your YouTube channel to Google Ads

If you have not yet linked your YouTube channel to Google Ads, you can do so to unlock additional reporting features that can give you better insights into campaign performance.

Repairs

Reduce your brand suitability exclusions

This recommends to reduce the number of exclusions you have applied to your campaign, which could limit your reach. By reducing the number of exclusions you have applied to your campaign, you can expand your reach and increase your efficiency.
