Open, manage & edit PDFs in Files by Google

You can directly open and edit PDF files in the Files by Google app.

Open & manage a PDF

  1. On your Android device, open Files by Google Files by Google.
  2. Under "Recents," you can find your recently added or downloaded PDF files, or search for a PDF file.
  3. Tap the PDF file you want to open. From the open PDF, you can take these actions:

Edit a PDF with annotations

You can annotate PDFs in Files by Google.

  1. On your Android device, open Files by Google Files by Google.
  2. Open a PDF.
  3. At the bottom right, tap Edit .
  4. At the bottom, you can find the toolbar with multiple annotating tools. To select an annotating tool, you can use a stylus or your finger.
    • Pen:
      • To annotate or mark over the PDF, use freehand strokes. You can choose the brush size and color.
    • Highlighter:
      • To highlight text, use freehand strokes. You can choose the highlighter size and color.
    • Erase:
      • To erase any individual line that you create, wipe through the line.
    • Undo:
      • Undo any action on the PDF.
    • Redo:
      • Redo any action on the PDF.
    • Show annotations:
      • To show all annotations, select Show annotations .
    • Hide annotations:
      • To hide all annotations, select Hide annotations .
  5. At the top right, tap Save copy and then Upload.
    • When you save a copy, it’s uploaded to your Google Drive. You can rename the file and select which Google Drive folder to save it in.
    • When you upload the new copy, the original copy remains unmarked and saved on your device.
