Use Google Docs editors with magnification and high contrast

You can use Google Docs editors with a variety of assistive technologies to help you with your tasks.

Use a screen magnifier

You can use a screen magnifier to zoom in on your screen.

  1. In Google Chrome Browser, open:
    • Docs
    • Sheets
    • Slides
    • Drawings
  2. Open the Tools menu, and then Accessibility.
  3. Tick Turn on screen magnifier support.

Tip: If the magnifier doesn't follow keyboard focus, adjust your magnifier settings.

To turn on the magnifier:

For Windows OS:

  • Use the keyboard shortcut: Windows + plus sign (+).
  • To open the Magnifier settings, press Ctrl + Windows + M, and then turn on Magnifier.

For Chrome OS:

  1. In 'Settings', select Advanced, Accessibility and then Manage accessibility features.
  2. Turn on Enable full-screen magnifier or Enable docked magnifier.

For Mac OS:

  1. In 'System Settings', select Accessibility.
  2. Click Zoom.
  3. In 'Advanced', turn on Follow the keyboard focus.

Turn on additional keyboard shortcuts

To open the Accessibility menu and turn on additional keyboard shortcuts, you can use the menu bar or keyboard shortcuts.

Use the menu bar

  1. Open the Tools menu.
    • On Windows and ChromeOS: Press Alt + Shift + T.
    • On MacOS: Press Control + Option + T.
  2. In the Tools menu, select Accessibility.
  3. Tab to and tick 'Turn on screen reader support'.
  4. To close the dialogue, press Enter.

Tip: After you open a menu option, to navigate to the other menus, press right arrow or left arrow.

Use the keyboard shortcut

  • On Windows and ChromeOS: Press Ctrl + Alt + Z.
    • On ChromeOS, this also turns on ChromeVox.
  • On MacOS: Press Command + Option + Z.
