Help me read on Chromebook Plus
With this feature, you can:
- Summarize a page.
- Ask questions about a page.
- Simplify selected text.
What you need
Important: You must be on a Chromebook Plus device.
To use this feature, make sure that you're:
- Located in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, or the United States.
- At least 18 years old.
- Using it on a page in supported languages with more than or equal to 400 characters.
- Signed in to your Google Account.
Currently, this feature is only available in these languages:
- Danish
- Dutch
- English
- Finnish
- French
- German
- Italian
- Japanese
- Norwegian
- Portuguese
- Spanish
- Swedish
Turn on Help me read
If you receive a notification about Help me read:
- Right-click on a page of text.
- You'll get a "Use Google AI to get help reading and writing" notification.
- Select Try it.
- If you don’t want to use Help me read, select No thanks.
- When you get the reminder, select Got it.
If you decline the original Help me read notification but would like to try it:
- On your Chromebook, at the bottom right, select the time.
- Select Settings .
- On the left, select System preferences.
- Under "Search and Assistant," turn on Help me read.
Get reading suggestions
Summarize with Help me readTo summarize a page:
- Right-click on a page of text.
- Make sure you do not select any text.
- In the "Help me read" card, select Summarize.
To simplify text:
- On a page of text, select text with more than 100 characters.
- Right-click the highlighted text.
- In the "Help me read" card, select Simplify.
- If there're many words selected, you can’t select Simplify.
To ask questions about the content, type your question In the "Ask a question" text box.
- Any questions that aren't covered in the page can't be answered by Help me read.
Tips:
- To rate the writing summary or Q&A, in the "Help me read" box, select Thumb up or Thumb down .
- If the summary didn’t meet your needs, you can provide your feedback when you select Thumb down .
Troubleshoot: Help me read errors
Can’t find Help me read in the context menuIf there’s no "Help me read" in the context menu, the app may have a custom right-click menu. In apps that have a custom right-click menu, Help me read isn’t available.
When your text length isn’t supported, you’ll get an error message. Try a different page.
If the info you enter is in an unsupported language or is unreadable, you’ll get an error message.
Currently, Generative AI is experimental, in early development, and has limited availability. If the server is at capacity, it can’t process your request. Try again at a later time.
How your data is used by Help me read
When you use Help me read, the text, content, and URL of the page you're writing on is sent to Google. As per Google’s Privacy Policy, this information is used to improve the feature, which includes generative model research and machine learning technologies. This info is also used to offer more contextual writing suggestions. Learn more about:
