Your perception tracking data in Android XR

The Android XR platform, provided by Google, is the core software that powers your experience on your XR headset. It enables you to use your eyes, hands, and face for intuitive and seamless input and navigation within the virtual and mixed-reality world.

Data required to enable core tracking features

To provide the eye, hand, and face tracking features, certain data is needed. This includes:

  • Images of your eyes, hands, face: Android XR platform analyzes images of your face, hands, and eyes from the cameras on your headset to understand where your eyes are looking and your hand and face movement. These images are processed in real-time and deleted; they are never stored on device nor sent to Google.
  • Measurement of your eyes, and face: To enable precise navigation with your eyes and accurately track your facial movement, a set of measurements of your eyes, and face are taken. For example, these measurements ensure that the lenses are aligned correctly and that your eye input is precise and accurate. This data is stored on-device only until deleted through a factory reset.

Privacy and control

  • Analytics and diagnostics: You can choose to send crash logs, diagnostics, and user feedback to Google for bug fixes and product improvement purposes. All information is used in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy. To turn on or off sharing, please view this article.
  • App sharing: You are in control of your data. An app must ask for your permission before it can access information about your hands, eyes, and face. If you grant permission, the app will receive data about your hands, eyes, and face, such as hand movements, their approximate size and shape, your gaze direction, and whether your eyes are open or closed.
