I wonder why Microsoft decided to have different hot keys than regular visual studio. This is very annoying switching having to switch back and forth. Commented Dec 23, 2017 at 4:54

Can you do this with your mouse? In other IDEs the back gesture/button navigates back as well. Commented Feb 28, 2018 at 14:56

Kind of an annoying binding for windows, unfortunately :( Would've been good to have the same as visual studio. Commented May 18, 2018 at 7:24

@RayLoveless VS Code is made by Microsoft so the Windows shortcut is the default. Alt+← is a system shortcut on linux and mac so they had to change it. Commented Jan 21, 2020 at 21:27

searching workbench.action.navigateBack & workbench.action.navigateForward under Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts worked for me, since I had an extension changing the default behaviour Commented Jun 1, 2021 at 12:30
