User "MariaDB" not seen by Cygwin, but it is there

I'm not sure if you are saying that the "+" separator character is a bug?
If that's what you are saying, then no, it's not a bug and is in fact
documented:

Excerpt: "Dependent on the domain membership of the account, and
dependent of the machine being a domain member or not, the user and
group names will be generated using a domain prefix and a separator
character between domain and account name. The separator character is
the plus sign, +."
I have often found that frustration can be ameliorated by reading the
documentation.
