Process Freezes with Cygwin 1.1.6 / Windows 98 SE

During binutils or gcc building for a powerpc cross-compiler, sometimes a
process freezes.
This usually occurs with SED, but I also had it with CAT or GREP.
In this case, if I issue the ps command from another bash occurrence, I
always find a "defunct" process
that cannot be killed and never disapears :
