Shouldn't I have gotten some results on stdout?
Try
$ bash -c 'echo 1ドル' bash yada
$ bash -c 'echo /0ドル/ $*' a bright sunshiny day
A perusal of the "quoting" section of the bash man page might be
particularly instructive.
