Entry updated 13 April 2026. Tagged: Author, TV.
Working name of Iris E E Baker (1924-2014), UK playwright, screenwriter and author, invariably in collaboration with her husband Pip Baker; their first work of genre interest was collaboration on the script for the film Captain Nemo and the Underwater City (1969) directed by James Hill, followed by a script for one 1976 episode of Space: 1999 (1975-1977). Much of their further joint work, discussed in the entry for Pip Baker, comprised Doctor Who screenplays and novelizations thereof [see Checklist below for the latter]. They created and wrote the CBBC (Children's BBC) Watt on Earth (1991-1992), that ran to two 12-episode series about the Alien Shapeshifter Watt who is hiding on Earth from an inimical pursuer; this was novelized by the Bakers as Watt on Earth (1991).
This author should not be confused with the artist Jane Baker who began to publish genre work in 2015. [DRL]
