This script generates a hexagonal grid then fills the color from an underlying rasterized image. So you first place an image with in the artboard, and rasterize it. Then execute the script.
The blurry photo I used here is from Yunyunsarang Deviantart.
*** JAN 4 2012 *** IMPORTANT UPDATE ***
Upon seeing so many bug reports, I decided to write a more user friendly Grid Generator that focuses on the grid, nothing else. Hope this would resolve the issue and happy new year every one! :)
EDIT:
This site is amazing, so don't apologize. I plan to start hanging out here in my spare time. Anyways, I figured out the problem, at least Im sure on my end, I can't speak for anyone else.
I just discovered your scripts the other night, and hastily downloaded, put them into to AI script folder, and called it a night.
I realized (a few minutes ago) that there was an entirely different install needed before any of the scripts would work, so Im going to read (like I should have) and follow the instructions (like I should have) instead of installing these like a giddy teenage designer. Im sure they will all work flawlessly.
So, my mistake, can't wait to utilize these things. Thanks. I'll be back soon.
I'm sorry I really couldn't understand this error.
The error is saying that the Path method (making a new path) is undefined, which is not true as Scriptographer defined it.
This is the first script I wrote for Scriptographer. Probably quite buggy...
I suggest you go to this script:
Grid GeneratorGrid Generator
It's supposed to be more universal. Thanks!
awesome !! tnx !! i love your greate job
I'm sorry to do this considering how long ago this was originally posted. I've been trying to get this script to work and I've been getting the following message
TypeError: Cannot read property "topLeft" from undefined
at My Scripts/hexagonalGridGen.js:17
TypeError: Cannot read property "topLeft" from undefined

TypeError: Cannot read property "topLeft" from undefined

Obviously I'm a noob with this but its such a great script I'm dying to use it.
I'm using a Mac with CS4.
If possible can someone give me a step by step on how to make this work?
Thanks!
I was having issues where the resultant grid was very dark—almost totally opaque black—but realized that when I was rasterizing my image I had selected the option to render white areas as transparent. Changing from transparent rasterization to opaque fixed it, and I started achieving the results I was after. Thanks for the script!
