As the guy before said, there are plenty of alternatives, processing is a good language to learn with a library full of material to learn from.
If you really want to use Scriptographer get cs5/cs5.1, it's a very stable version of illustrator (much more stable than CC!!). If push comes to shove you can use both in your workflow!
