add run basic code to html

hello,

i know we can use html in run basic, but is it possible to use run basic code in an html page that is hosted on the rb server? for example, if i have a web page in the public folder and navigate my browser to the page, will any run basic code run? I ask this because it seems that there is no easy way to format a run basic web page. I am just learning so maybe there is some thing I've not found out yet.

well, at the moment i'm not looking to do nothing too fancy, but in the near future I'd like to create something that looks like say a web portal. For example Yahoo.com. when it loads you have different sections around the page (news,moves, etc.) each section is a separate piece of the web page. This way for instance I could have more then one rb program running on a web page. Each program could be doing a different thing. I think CSS or html could be used to create separation, I think I just need to keep learning more too. This might fall into the add on catagory that I had asked about a few months ago.

You can do this in Run BASIC. For example, look at the programManager example that comes with Run BASIC. That shows how to have different programs on a page, and if you look at the Multicounter, it actually has 5 counters, and each of those is a separate program.

Which add-on-category are you referring to?

I had asked a question on the LB board. I asked about being able to use LB on a different web site then it was installed on as an embeded script. You had said that could only happen if RB was created as a downloadable add on for IE. You said that RB would not be able to be used as an ad on. I thought maybe what I wanted to do could only be done with such an ad on. Hope im not sounding confusing. it's no big deal. I will just learn more about RB,CSS, and HTML and I'm sure I'll be able to do what I want. Thanks for the help.

Well, I'm getting in here a little late... but I think what he wants is a template engine. So that he can easily create and design webpages with dreamweaver or frontpage etc.... and can add tags to the html code that will then parse the html and pull up the actual RB function results.
A template engine would make creating cool layouts way easier than doing all the html inside the RB code itself. Unfortunatily a good working template engine is not done in 3 lines of code... even though the principles are pretty simple. Maybe Carl could do a new competition like once done for the RB editiors.... This way the already advanced programmers could show off their abilities again! :)
And a template engine would make a very good usability-adon for RB.

rbCMS looks nice.... but is probably still not suited for someone with limited programming abilities who want's to deploy a nicly looking websites in short time. So a template engine would still be first choice then.. especially as it enables you to use all the great tools that are out there for html wysiwyg editing.

This is an interesting idea, but it is conceptually different from the way RB works. I'm not going to rule it out mind you, but what RB needs right now is an even stronger way to do what it already does.
