The same code, launching a .wmv video, begins playing without any click. Can the html code be modified so the video requires a click before starting?

What you're seeing is a byproduct of the way IE handles ActiveX controls. There's no workaround. The IE Team has said on their blog that the issue will be fixed in a pending update to IE7.
