Set Up an Initialization Cell

Designate cells in a notebook to be evaluated automatically before the first user evaluation after the notebook is opened.

It is sometimes useful to run initialization code before the content of a notebook is used. Any cell marked as an initialization cell will be automatically evaluated before the first user evaluation after the notebook is opened.

To mark a cell as an initialization cell, select the cell bracket and choose Cell Cell Properties Initialization Cell ():

When the notebook is subsequently opened, the initialization cells are evaluated before the first user evaluation:

To mark a cell as an initialization cell, hover near the cell bracket, click the cell menu icon, and choose Set as Initialization:
