Biography
Fareed Y. Shalhout is the Executive Director of Strategic Global Engagement and Operations for the Office of the Vice Provost. In this role, Fareed is responsible for the strategic development and operational management of the Office of International Programs, Office of International Students and Scholars, Office of Fellowships, Education Abroad, the English Language Institute and more than 150 international partnerships.
He manages the advancement of key priorities including international education, international enrollment growth, immigration compliance and student success. Fareed leads internationalization efforts across Wayne State through cross-campus collaboration, international outreach, student engagement initiatives and management of federally funded programs such as the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program and Fulbright scholar orientation. He also assists with Partnerships & Workforce operations and reports directly to the Vice Provost.
Fareed most recently served as director of global student engagement in the Office of International Programs, which he joined in 2018. Prior to joining this division, he held the role as the Orientation Coordinator under Student Success. Fareed is involved in professional organizations, including as an active NAFSA member. Additionally, he serves as the Vice Chair for Global Ties Detroit.
