I loved Cadiz—it's now one of my favorite places in Spain. I stayed a block off Playa de la Caleta for about three weeks and would recommend that area highly; two minutes to the beach made it easy to pop down for a quick 20-30 minute reset between work. The food scene is incredible—jamon iberico, wine, shrimp fritters, and cheese. It's also a 30 minute train to the sherry region; a fun day trip to Jerez. The city has a rare balance of quaint and hip—beautiful old architecture, Roman ruins, a solid history museum, great beaches, and a relaxed flip-flops-and-wine-in-the-park vibe without the tourist crush of Barcelona or Madrid. There's tourism, but it felt modest in June. Walkable enough that I literally covered every street over three weeks. A place I'd absolutely return to.
