IFTTT Integration

Latest comment: 2 years ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

Hi Ainali!

I have been investigating the issue with the IFTTT integration that @SLaporte (WMF) had originally created. We do not have the capacity to continue to maintain this service but we've identified the work required to fix the broken integration. The code itself is on Github and hosted on toolforge. Stephen said you might be someone who uses the Wikipedia IFTTT and thought I reach out to see if you're interested in adopting?

Please let me know your thoughts, SKim (WMF) (talk) 16:06, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

I am a consumer of the IFTTT channels, but don't have the knowledge to fix anything myself (I am not a developer). Ainali talk contributions 20:15, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

Wikimedia Norge

Hello, here are the latest news from Wikimedia Norge!

English Wikipedia most visited
Statistics for pageviews to encyclopedias in Norway in 2021 were recently shared on Torget. Not surprisingly, Wikipedia is the most-visited encyclopedia; the English-language edition is slightly ahead of the Norwegian Bokmål and Nynorsk editions (combined), with 348 and 325 million pageviews, respectively. In comparison, the next encyclopedia on the list, Store norske leksikon, had 112 million pageviews. The numbers speak for themselves: Wikipedia is where people go to learn.
It is also a reminder that Wikipedians' efforts are incredibly important. We hope these numbers can help motivate both new and experienced contributors.
Thanks to H@r@ld for sharing this information.
Bot workshop
On Sunday 27 February from 12:00–16:00, we will hold a bot workshop! We will go through how to set up and run the most common bot framework, Pywikibot, on PAWS, and show some of the most common standard scripts in Pywikibot.
Maximum 10 participants! Sign up on the meet-up page or via e-mail to jhsoby@wikimedia.no.
Year of Queer Culture
panel debate in Bergen
On Thursday 24 March, Wikimedia Norge and the National Archive for Queer History will hold a panel debate at Litteraturhuset, Bergen. The theme for the debate is how archives, museums and Wikipedia can make queer history, art and culture more visible. IT will also examine how we use contemporary labels for the past. A common understanding of what queer history is will help us to make queer history more visible.
The event is part of the Year of Queer Culture 2022.
Wiki meet-up and general assembly in Bergen
Wikimedia Norge will host a wiki meet-up with pizza and something to drink at Villa Paradiso Ole Bull on 25 March, starting 18:30. Register on the wiki meet-up page or by e-mail to wikimedia@wikimedia.no.
The next day, on 26 March from 12–14, we will hold our general assembly , taking place at Litteraturhuset, Bergenː All members are welcome! The general assembly will also be streamed for those who can't be there in person, and voting will happen digitally.
Active contributors can get a travel stipend. Send an e-mail to astrid@wikimedia.no in order to apply.
Remember membership fees before the general assembly!
You can finally use Vipps to set up a regular, annual payment of your membership. We have updated our website and hope even more people will use a recurring payment. If you wish to use AvtaleGiro, that is also still possible.
Remember that you must have paid your membership fee for 2022 in order to vote at the general assembly.

Latest news from the Wikimedia Collaboration team, about Notifications , Flow and Edit Review Improvements . Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you.

What's new?

The Collaboration team is delighted to publish its first newsletter! Your feedback is welcome.

This quarter the team will focus on improving Special:RecentChanges and create a ReviewStream, a new feed designed to improve the edit-review process. Both are part of the new Edit Review Improvements project.

Notifications [ More information · Help pages ]

Recent changes

  • Documentation concerning Notifications types has been updated. That page is ready for translations. [1]
  • For developers, how to create a new Notification type has been updated. [2]
  • Tools owners will be notified when OAuth app changes state. [3]
  • When you edit text and mention a new username they are notified if you add your signature. Before this only happened under certain conditions. [4]
  • Users are notified if they are mentioned in a section where you add your own signature even if you edit more than one section. Before, users were not notified if you edited more than one section in one edit. [5]
  • Sometimes when you mention another user they don't get a notification. Now you can get a notification when you successfully send out a mention to someone or be told if they did not get a notification. This is an opt-in option in your preferences. [6] [7]
  • On Notifications, the badge is colored if you have some notifications. If you see these notifications, the badge will turn grey on all wikis instead of just the local one. [8]

Problems

  • For some users, cross-wiki notifications haven't been working properly. The count has been wrong when only cross-wiki notifications were present. The cross-wiki bundle has been showing only the names of wikis and not the actual notifications. It has been fixed. [9] [10]
  • When a title was created with some wikitext inside of it, Notifications were not linking that title when they were mentioned. This is now fixed. [11]
  • Some Notifications messages were not supporting {{GENDER:}}. This is now fixed. [12]

Future changes

  • On Special:Notifications, pages and counts related to disabled notification types will not be shown anymore. [13]

Flow [ More information · Help pages ]

Recent changes

  • Flow is available as a Beta feature on Greek Wikipedia. [14]
  • A satisfaction survey was conducted concerning Flow in September 2016. Results will be published in December 2016. [15]
  • Wikitext interface for Flow is now using a monospaced font. [16]
  • It is now possible to moderate a Flow topic that have been resolved without re-opening it. [17]
  • It is now possible to watch and unwatch topics directly from the Notification panel. [18]

Problems

  • It is not possible to enable or disable Flow as a Beta feature on wikis where that option is available. This is under investigation. [19]
  • Some Flow messages were not supporting {{GENDER:}}. This is now fixed. [20]

Future changes

  • Communities that have Flow enabled manually on user talk pages will be asked to move on to a Beta feature activation to simplify the process. [21]
  • Notifications related to Flow will be grouped on your Notifications preferences. It will be easier to choose which Notifications you want to have from Flow. [22]

Thank you for your presentation on podcasts!

Latest comment: 2 years ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

Thank you very much for presenting at Wikimania on how to make a podcast in one's language! It gave me a lot of inspiration - let's see if "I want to do a podcast" turns into "I'll actually do a podcast" with the chronic procrastinator that I am, but that's already more than would have happened without you. So huge thanks for the inspiration and for the practical tips! Exilexi (talk) 15:22, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words! If you have any further questions, feel free to post them here, or if you like, we could also have a quick video conference and chat. One tip that I forgot to mention, you can always start with a "pilot" and just do one episode to see how it feels before committing to do it regularly. Archiver bot template issue

Latest comment: 2 years ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

Hello. Looking at ArchiverBot logs I noticed that the template to ask the bot to archive this page is not correctly configured, so it is not archiving anything here. May I suggest the following code?

{{User:MiszaBot/config
| archive = User_talk:Ainali/Archives/%(year)d
| algo = old(90d)
| archiveheader = {{archive-header}}
| minthreadstoarchive = 1
}}

That will archive threads older than 90 days in yearly archives.

August happenings

  • We held two community conversations, one in person at Wikimania 2022/Pittsburgh and one virtual during a Wikimedians in Residence Exchange Network meeting.
    • During both meetings we discussed final design of View it!, and results refinement and querying. Check the August updates for notes from both meetings.
  • View it! is working across all Wikimedia projects, and we are currently working on multi-lingual functionality.

Coming in September

  • Currently plan to focus development on multilingialism, on-wiki/editor features for the user script, and extending the search functions on Toolforge.
  • We are continuing to respond to user feedback and finalizing design.

Action to take

  • Install Beta script and see how it can used to add new images to articles.
  • All editors are invited to share the tool with their local wiki communities, or incorporate it into relevant local templates, such as infoboxes. If you do so, please let us know about it, so we can ensure backwards compatibility for that use case as we continue development!

October Update

Latest comment: 1 year ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

September/October Happenings

  • View it! is now multilingual! We are currently working on tool localization. Please consider helping us!
  • View it! now has advanced search option on Toolforge, simply toggle on to enable searching with a different property constraint, free text, specific resolution, and quality assessment.
  • Advanced search allows for searching by Commons Categories which have an associated P373.
    • Commons Category search will also show sub-categories for more specific results.

Coming Soon

  • We are releasing a new version of View it! that will implement some of the Toolforge functionality into the on-Wiki experience.
  • We are thinking about ways for View it! results to show up on page as an image grid, gallery or other form, without leaving the page. Please let us know what your idea/preference is.
  • Integrating editor features such as the ability to add an image from View it! or remove a faulty statement.

Action to take

  • Share your thoughts with us about the interface! What would you like the final product to look like? Should it be on-wiki? Preference on location of the button/link? We are open to ideas - please share them with us.

Wikimedia Norge
Wikimedia Norge

Hello, here are the latest news from Wikimedia Norge!

Wikigrants and news archive access
December 1st is the deadline to apply for wikigrants from Wikimedia Norge. If you have an idea for a wiki-related project you'd like to do, but need some extra money to do it, you should apply! Anything goes as long as the end result benefits the Wikimedia projects.
On the same date we will be dispersing access to the news archive Retriever for the period until May 20th, 2023. In Retriever, you can search the archives of 2,916 Norwegian news sources. Sign up on the list on Wikipedia if you're interested.
Committee being put together
How should we increase the number of members of Wikimedia Norge? We hope you would like to give us some input.
The 2022 general assembly decided that a committee should be put together to find out how to incentivize members to join. The board of Wikimedia Norge has written a mandate to give the committee a good frame of reference. The committee will consist of members and other Wikimedians, as well as a representative from the administration, and will deliver a report to the board on January 15th, 2023.
We encourage anyone who wants more info or wants to join the committee to get in touch with board chair Marie Nicolaisen by November 27th on marie@wikimedia.no.
Start-up help
Do you know someone who wants to contribute to Wikipedia, but doesn't know where to start?
On Wikipedia they can get a mentor, and there is a forum for new users. Now they can also meet an experienced Wikipedian "face-to-face" in an online event to get help live. Wikimedia Norge's start-up help will happen on the first Wednesday of every month. The first opportunity is December 7th, 19–20 CET.
This is happening before Christmas
Wiki meet-up: Tuesday November 22nd, 17:00–22:00 at Deichman Bjørvika, Oslo. Active contributors will meet up for a workshop and exchange of experiences. After the meet-up there will be a social meeting at nearby Døgnvill Burger.
Start-up help: Wednesday December 7th, 19:00–20:00. Digital meet-up for new Wikipedians to get started.
Christmas meet-up: Thursday December 8th we will meet at Dattera til Hagen in Oslo. Those who want to eat will meet at 17:00; there will be a quiz from 19:00 onwards.

Have you already paid your membership fees for 2022? If not, you can always do so by re-registering on this page.
