This page hosts requests for global (un)blocks, (un)locks and hidings.

If you are here because you have been blocked by a global block, and believe that the block is in error or you have not done anything wrong, there are a few methods through which you can appeal:

 • If the IP is not currently blocked on meta, you can post a request to this page following the instructions below to have the IP unblocked.
 • If the IP is currently blocked on meta, you can post an appeal on your talk page. For maximum effectiveness, link to the username of the steward who globally blocked the IP address using the code USERNAME so that they are pinged by it.
 • If you are editing from an account and have been caught by a global IP block that is unlikely to be removed (i.e. because it is an open proxy or because of long-term abuse), you can request an individual exemption from the block at the requests for global permissions page. Please see the section on global IP block exemptions on that page for specific instructions for making a request.
 • If none of those options work, you are free to email us at stewards@wikimedia.org.

Note: (un)blocks apply to IP addresses; and (un)locks apply to global accounts

Requests for global (un)block

Please be sure to follow the instructions below:

Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions.
Please also review Global blocking .
Global blocks don't affect Meta-Wiki, so if your IP address or account is blocked, you can still appeal here. IP addresses or accounts that cause disruption on Meta should be reported at Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat instead of here so that they can be blocked locally.</translate>
<translate> Please describe the kind of cross wiki abusive activity you see from the IP or account. Saying an IP or account is a long term abuser is not helpful, but saying "IP vandalizes at ban.wikipedia, no.wikipedia and vi.wikipedia" is. This is especially important for range blocks. If you do not provide enough details, your request might be declined.</translate>
<translate> Instructions for making a request</translate>

<translate> Before requesting, make sure that:

 1. You know the IP address(es) or accounts you wish to have globally blocked or unblocked.
 2. For blocks, the global blocking criteria are met.
 3. For unblocks, your request addresses the original reason for blocking the IP or account, if any.

To make a request for the address(es) or account(s) to be blocked or unblocked

Copy the template below to the bottom of this section and explain why the address(es) or account(s) should be blocked/unblocked.</translate>
Global block/unblock for <translate><!--T:5--> Some IP address or account</translate>
Status <!-- Do not remove this template -->
* <translate><!--T:6--> IP address/username</translate>
<translate><!--T:7--> Description, evidence, diffs, etc.</translate> --~~~~

When requesting that your IP be unblocked, note that stewards need to know your IP address to even consider a request.
To find your IP, please visit <tvar name=whatismyip>https://www.whatismyip.com/</tvar>
You are not required to disclose your IP in public - you may make requests privately to any steward on <tvar name=IRC>IRC</tvar> or by email at: <tvar name=address>stewards@wikimedia.org</tvar></translate>

Global unblock for 82.192.95.184

Status: In progress

When I use free internet access via hamburg.freifunk.net (a charitable NGO based organisation of the civil society like wikipedia by the way), I get blocked for editing, even though I am logged in. Why should my IP-address be a concern, when wikipedia knows my login? What is the difference to my other access providers, where I am not blocked? German Telekom gives me a new IP-address every day and in the office I share the same IP adress with 5000 colleagues. What is safer or better for wikipedia there? The message I get is:

Die Sperre wurde durchgeführt von Vituzzu (meta.wikimedia.org). Die angegebene Begründung ist Open proxy: hosting on leaseweb.nl.

Beginn der Sperre: 19:48, 29. Okt. 2012 Ablauf der Sperre: 19:48, 29. Okt. 2017 Deine aktuelle IP-Adresse ist 82.192.95.184. Bitte gib alle obigen Details in allen gemachten Anfragen an. With best regards --G-u-t (talk) 21:46, 9 May 2014 (UTC) Reply

Global unblock for 188.138.1.73

Status: In progress

Sorry, I don't understand anything. I'm on holiday in a tiny Bavarian city. The hosts of the guesthouse gave me a HOTSPLOTS (hotsplots.de) free WLAN login ticket for their hotspot. Sometimes I get this block message when trying to edit something in Wikipedia ("Die Sperre wurde durchgeführt von Vituzzu (meta.wikimedia.org). Die angegebene Begründung ist Open proxy: hosting on plusserver"), sometimes not. What's this all about? --GraceKelly (talk) 15:44, 13 May 2014 (UTC) Reply

Global unblock for 24.192.253.22

Status: In progress

Please unblock this IP. My IP was changed today following a one-year lease by my ISP, so this no longer belongs to the possible abuser. --24.192.253.22 21:20, 13 May 2014 (UTC) Reply

I doubt this claim and I do not recommend an unblock with just this information; you might wish to email stewards(_AT_)wikimedia.org though. Trijnstel talk 22:44, 13 May 2014 (UTC) Reply

Requests for global (un)lock and (un)hiding

Latest comment: 10 years ago 5 comments4 people in discussion
Be sure to follow the instructions below:
 • Your request might be rejected if it doesn't include the necessary information.
 • Warning! This page is publicly viewable. If the account name is grossly insulting or contains personal information please contact a steward privately in #wikimedia-stewards connect or email your request to the stewards VRT queue at stewards-oversight@wikimedia.org (direct wiki interface) but do not post it here. Thanks.
 • Warning! This is not the place to ask for locks based on your opinion that someone is disruptive. Global locks are used exclusively against vandalism and spam, not because of content disputes, not because you think that someone deserves to be globally blocked. In such cases, you should ask for local blocks at appropriate places.
 • If you are globally locked, you should appeal your lock to stewards-appeals@wikimedia.org.

Please describe abusive activity of an account before reporting them here. Since stewards are often not active at projects the reported accounts are, things that seem obvious to you may not be equally obvious to the reviewing steward.

Instructions for making a request

Before requesting that a global account be (un)locked, please be sure that:

 1. You have evidence of cross-wiki disruption from the account(s).
 2. You can show that it is not feasible to use local-only blocks or other measures like page protection to combat the disruption.
 3. You have considered making the request in #wikimedia-stewards connect , especially for account names which will be hidden, or for urgent requests.
To make a request for an account to be locked or unlocked
Copy one of the codes below to the bottom of this section and explain why the account(s) should be locked/unlocked.
Global lock/unlock for Foo
status <!-- do not remove this template -->
* username
* <!-- if you do not want the name to be visible on this page -->
*...
Reasons, etc. --~~~~

For many accounts:

Global lock for spambots/vandals
status <!-- do not remove this template -->
username
<!-- if you do not want the names to be visible on this page -->

Reasons, etc, --~~~~

Global block for the IP of Avoided

Status: In progress

Now I have another idea, in the case of Avoided: Why we don ́t global block his IP, then he can ́t produce more account. I think this is a possibility, because he isn ́t only in the German active, he is also in the English and French Wikipedia (see the first query on my documented list). The problem with the IP is, he produce every day more than five account.

There are now some range for the case, when anybody will global block:

Maybe youshould block for three accounts, the damage of this user is very high, cost our administrator many force, energie and I think this is a time. And what do you think to block

Avoided (talkcontribsblockxwiki-contribs xwiki-date (alt )gblock ST lwcheckuser ), because he created many offended username and we should global block him. --Olmoj (talk) 19:23, 8 May 2014 (UTC) Reply

Will anybody answer? --Olmoj (talk) 15:55, 13 May 2014 (UTC) Reply

Global unlock for Johnericlee

Status: In progress

It has been several months now. I am requesting unblock. I have read all the policies. I have proposed some good edits. I will not sock puppet again now having the consequences. Monitor my talk page for some edit proposals. I realized that blocks are to prevent disruption, not to punish. I will assume good faith to the community, assuming that the community is doing the same. I am sorry for sock puppetry. I have read the welcome page to see what good edits I can make. My new reason to be on Wikipedia is to participate in community discussion, copyedit, revert and report vandals, and clean up bad articles. I promise not to sock puppet again. In fact, I will participate in the SPI discussions. After all, many of the best editors have made mistakes before. 98.169.63.91 10:59, 10 May 2014 (UTC) Reply

Global unlock for Samotny Wędrowiec

Status: In progress

Hello, I am requesting an unlock for Samotny Wędrowiec. There is at least one other person who uses this IP address to edit Wikipedia, but right now it is I - the owner of said account - who is posting this and I was always the only person who used that account (just to make things clear and avoid misunderstandings). The reason why I was blocked is mostly due to my intentional actions (though I wasn't thinking straight at that moment and my decisions were not rational, but made on an emotional impulse). I was becoming increasingly frustrated with a certain group of users who were combating all of my constructive edits and kept reverting them, usually without getting involved in the discussion at all and ignoring the consensus that was achieved there (some of my uploads were also targeted by unreasonable copyright infringement accusations and subsequently removed, the arguments of which were based mostly on their points of view rather than facts).

This frustration reached its zenith following three months of pointless struggle at this page, which resulted in an outburst of unreasonable and inappropriate behaviour on my part (I acted similarly on the Polish Wikipedia, where POV-pushing is at its worst and the entire encyclopedia is used almost like a propaganda machine). I actually wanted to get banned permanently so that I would not feel inclined to waste my time on arguments that are impossible to win against people who will just sweep you under the carpet. Upon realizing that my actions were not enough to warrant a lock, I vandalized the pages of Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin and Roman Dmowski - knowing that this would receive attention. I was right and my account was blocked shortly thereafter.

Of course, I realize that my behaviour was completely inappropriate and I should not have lost my temper under any circumstances (I guess the worst thing you can do on the internet is indeed lose your temper, as traces of the effects will always remain in one form or another). However, after a month away from Wikipedia and not being able to log in, I've decided it's time to return. You can see that before my outburst of anger I made countless constructive contributions to Wikipedia using that account, including the creation and expansion of numerous articles, as well as the uploading of various files - some of which have not been removed and simply cannot be accused of infringing anything.

I believe that I have learned my lesson and I wish to become a valuable member of this project again. If given the chance, this time I would try to take a different approach; I would take things less seriously, I wouldn't let myself get provoked or lose my temper and I wouldn't insult other users even if I felt they'd given me plenty of good reason to do so (be that through edit warring and ignoring discussions, harassing me or abusing their power). Now I am also more familiar with the whole process of locking and what constitutes it.

Kind regards,
