This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure. Minimum voting requirement are listed here.
Old sections are archived. The list of archives is below.
- Requests for bot flags are handled at SRB, and requests for global permissions are handled at SRGP.
- If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
- For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewards connect IRC channel. In emergencies, type
!steward
in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type@steward
for non-urgent help.
Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Using this page
1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:
==== Username@xxproject ==== {{sr-request |status = <!-- Don't change this line --> |domain = <!-- Such as en.wikibooks --> |user name = |discussion= }} (your remarks) ~~~~
2. Fill in the values:
- domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
- user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
- discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser]]"). This should normally be for at least one week, but no more than three weeks (if so, you'll need to restart the process).
3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.
Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement
Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.
Requests
COPY THE FOLLOWING CODE to the bottom of the appropriate section below:
==== User name@xxproject ==== {{sr-request |status = <!--don't change this line--> |domain = |user name = |discussion= }}
Administrator access
See Administrator for information about this user group.
- If you are requesting adminship to handle one time vandalism incidents or clearing a deletion backlog, please see Steward requests/Miscellaneous.
- MediaWiki interface translations are done at translatewiki.net. Please do not request administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.
- Admins doing cross-wiki work may wish to see IRC/wikimedia-admin for information about joining #wikimedia-admin connect .
- Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.
Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.
Please start a new discussion about requesting the permission on the local village pump, administrators' noticeboard or a designated page for requesting permissions each time you request or renew adminship.
- Discussions should be open for seven days. Please request adminship here seven days after discussions started. This page is not the place for any discussions or votes. (For wikis with few active users, it is OK to have no comments.)
- If you only want adminship for specific tasks, please state for how long and for which tasks you need it. Otherwise stewards will decide whether to assign permanent adminship and the duration of adminship. See Steward requests/Permissions/Minimum voting requirements.

Hello, fa.wiktionary.org is small wiki and all admin of fa.wiktionary is very inactive. - Hello @Caro de Segeda, thanks for the interest! Can you please start a thread about your request at nov.wikipedia, at some highly-visible page (village pump, administrator's noticeboard, dedicated page for request for permissions or similar), to serve as your request for adminship (RfA)? Once you start the thread, please link it here.
- To explain: A (local) RfA needs to be started on the project for someone to become an admin, even if the project is very small. This is to allow any wikimedians to speak up about the RfA and support/oppose, in case they wish to do so. If there won't be any comments under the RfA, that's fine – as long as there are no opposes, it will (likely) result in (temporary) adminship granted. More information about the way how stewards evaluate RfAs can be found at MVR.
- If you have any questions about the process, feel free to ask here – we'll be happy to help. Best wishes, Martin Urbanec (talk) 11:56, 30 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]

Interface administrator access
See Interface admin for information about this user group.
- If you need to accomplish a one-time, non-recurring task, please request your task at Steward requests/Miscellaneous.
- If you are requesting adminship and the interface admin at the same time, you can file one request in administrator section and state you want interface adminship as well.

Bureaucrat access
- In principle, requests for temporary bureaucrat access are not granted.
- A small project does not need bureaucrats. Currently whether a promotion is valid or not is decided by stewards. See here for a guideline.
Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.
CheckUser access
- To request CheckUser information, see Steward requests/Checkuser. This is the place to request CheckUser access.
- One-time CheckUser access is not permitted and temporary access is only used by Stewards or when the mandate of the CUs has an expiry date specified in local policies.
- Stewards: Before granting this permission to a user, please check the current policy and make sure that the user has signed the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. An email template is available for requesting new users to identify.
- When a new user is assigned to this group, please add them to this list. Subscription to checkuser-l will be handled by list owners. Make sure new users contact an op for access to #wikimedia-privacy connect and #wikimedia-checkuser connect .

- @Martin Urbanec: I signed before writing here. What do you mean? דגש (talk) 13:03, 31 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
- @דגש: Your signature of the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information has to be confirmed by the Trust and Safety team of the Wikimedia Foundation before the CU-permission can be assigned. Given you indicate you signed the document, the signature should be published soon on this page. Daniuu (talk) 13:10, 31 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
- As @Daniuu says. Your signature on the document was not yet acknowledged by the WMF Office. From a stewards' perspective, it's impossible to tell apart "did sign, but signature was not yet acknowledged" and "did not sign at all". Sorry for confusing you! (Perhaps we should add a sentence about that into the standard "NDA-only permission req on hold" message?). Best, Martin Urbanec (talk) 14:32, 31 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
- @Martin Urbanec: I think it's worth adding to a sentence format like this: "If you have already signed the agreement, permission will be given after the signature check by the Wikimedia team. The signature check will be documented on the page Access to nonpublic personal data policy/Noticeboard". דגש (talk) 07:23, 1 June 2022 (UTC) [reply ]

Oversight access
- To request to have content oversighted, ask for a steward in #wikimedia-stewards connect and contact a steward privately. This section is for requesting access to the Oversight tool.
- For contact details about oversighters across the wikis, refer to this page.
- Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and temporary status is only used by Stewards .
- Stewards: Before granting this permission to a user, please check the current policy and make sure that the user has signed the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation.
- When a new user is assigned to this group, please add them to this list.
Miscellaneous requests
Requests for permissions that don't fit in other sections belong here. Importer rights can be granted on most wikis by stewards only. Please gain local community consensus before posting a new section here.

Removal of access
- If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
- To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, provide a link to the discussion, with a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.
- To request the removal of another user's permissions for inactivity, link to your local inactivity policy. If your site does not have inactivity policy, the global policy Admin activity review applies.
- See the instructions above for adding new requests. Please post new requests at the bottom of the section.

They have importer rights on this project. The user is inactive on this project for last 10 years 2 months. So they are definitely inactive for long. As there was no action and such advance rights should be removed as per Admin activity review? As an active user of a project, I request the removal of another user's permissions for inactivity. Both User:Sajad and Mardetanha are inactivie, Sajad for more than two year, and Mardetanha, well is not active from the first, 7 Augt 2007, He has not done any useful work for the project; Every ping leaves him unanswered, most of his contributions are minor edits not very active while there is active users, he does not care about any of the programs that other active users suggest for the progress of the project. Be active or resign. There are also concerns about abuse, another admin of fa.wikiquote. Farhang2016, did not treat me well, accused me of sockpuppetry but Mardetanha did not interfere. There is no way for local discussion too, lack of active users, actually I'm the only one there. I feel Farhang basically does not talk and discuss, he likes silence and instructs users to only participate in content and be silent and not participate in any discussion. I am the only living person in that cemetery!
I like to say that if any Iranian Arab user appears in any Farsi project, they call him/her as sock of Chyah, There is a chaos of sockophobic monster about Chyah in all Persian project, they block any user they pleaseant with no reason under excuse of Chyah's sock. But Mardetanha whos is active in WMF, a bureaucrat and admin in fa.wikiquote does nothing, he has forgotten even simple tasks and does not show any reaction to the harassment of users, eespecially multilingual-cultural users. I pinged him many times about UCoC local situation, no reply. Today I confirm that he is not active, he is an inactive user with more access in fa.wikiquote. With Regards. --Ruwaym (talk) 08:36, 28 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
- Hello @Ruwaym, thank you for making the request. Does fa.wikiquote have any inactivity policy that should be applied here? If there's such a policy, please link it here, so we can take a look and review the situation.
- If there is no inactivity policy specific to fa.wikiquote, then the global one (AAR) applies. Inactivity on projects with no local inactivity policy is reviewed annually by the stewards – more details about the last round of reviews can be found at Admin activity review/2021. As far as I know, none of the users you mention met the AAR criteria during the last round of reviews.
- If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know -- I'll be happy to clarify. Sincerely, Martin Urbanec (talk) 09:20, 28 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
- Hey @Martin thank you for replying speedy. As I said, basically any discussion outside of the articles is almost forbidden there; If I start such topic - inactivity policy - they will be accuse me of "disrupting" and then blockme for infinite, with no right of emailing or editing talkpage. They love blocking, actually they don't reply you but block you easily.
- It's better to take a closer look at his contributions out of a 365-day calendar, someone might be Inactive for 364 days and send Christmas greetings on the last day to escape AAR. Mardentanha is not active, he may do minor edits every year, he has done so for all the years he has had such access. But that's this is not only problem, I think he has lost his bureaucratic qualifications; Because not doing his duties and protecting the system and society. For example, if a troll attacks me right now, he and the other admin will not react. Why? Because they consider me a sockpuppet, and why they call me a sockpuppeter of Chyah? because Sunfyre said that. They can not realize that there are millions of Arabs living in their own country, they are "Iranian Arabs", and every Iranian Arab user is not Chyah. I talked about this issue before, no one cares. Just blocking user is matter.
- I'm sure trolls will attack me soon, all my virtual information will be stolen, I am terrified and I will be spied on, I will be harassed more, As I was harassed, both in the real and virtual world; But what is the reaction of Mardetanha and Farhang? Nothing. Both are indirectly feeding the trolls. In my opinion, Mardentanha is not only inactive, but also disqualified. Because of what happened to Chyah, it will probably happen to me as well. There is no guarantee for protection of users there, or in any of the Persian projects. They just do blocking users.
- I repeat again, Mardetanha is inactive, I pinged him a lot of times, not replying us, and I am an active user in fa.wikiquote.org I wanna see some active users with more access, not sleeping ones. Ruwaym (talk) 10:43, 28 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
- Sajad is really not active, about Mardetanha It's so much better that If he can guarantee about saftey of users and UCoC applying in fa.wikiquote. He is silent, not repyling, please tell him to be more active or resign, tell him to protect fa.wikiquote users or leave his access. I can't contribute under the shadow of a sockophobic monster who terrifies any Iranian Arab to Infinite block. Thank you again Martin. Ruwaym (talk) 14:15, 28 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
- (non-steward comment) Without commenting on the validity of the allegations above - may be worth reviewing User:Rschen7754/Help, my wiki went rogue! for suggestions in cases like this. --Rs chen 7754 21:19, 28 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
Not done Thanks everyone. To summarize the policy, admins can be generally removed by stewards in three cases: 1) following an inactivity policy 2) following a clear community decision (ArbCom decision, failed reconfirmation, removal RfC, etc.) 3) in an emergency, following a clear abuse of rights. Ad 1) Inactivity removal can't happen, because there's no local inactivity policy (AAR reviews are handled separately). Ad 2) AFAICS, there is no community decision mandating the removal. Ad 3) I can't find any admin action that would be clearly an abuse of the rights. In addition to that, I also don't see any reasons why to consider this case an emergency. Taking all those together, I don't see a reason to remove their sysop rights. Thank you for your understanding, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 16:14, 30 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]

- Just to give some context in case it is confusing what the linked discussion is, this is basically a resignation request but it follows the request to bureaucrats where it was discussed whether the user should lose the admin rights as arguably he might have violated the terms of limited adminship that he was granted. Base (talk) 13:39, 30 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
- Actually, I have these rights until June 12. So stewards decide whether it makes sense to deprive in advance or not. In my opinion, the seizure through which I filed this application violates the rights granted to me by bureaucrats. I deleted the category I created incorrectly in my own article. I thought it was a perfectly normal edit not to distract administrators. Formally, my removal of the category was a violation of the terms of granting me administrator rights. Therefore, it is the stewards who must indicate whether it is a violation to remove an incorrectly created category or not. Thank you. --Jphwra (talk) 14:47, 30 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
Let me offer some clarification as a UkWiki bureaucrat who granted admin rights Jphwra.
Amidst Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Ukrainian community has been experiencing reduced community capabilities to fight vandalism and fulfill other maintenance duties, so we’ve adopted the practice of granting temporary adminship for a brief period of time.
Jphwra was granted temporary adminship with strict limitation to use admin rights only for removing obvious vandalism (while Jphwra is an experienced user and former admin, he’d been involved in some rule violations like edit wars in the past, hence the limitation; Jphwra suggested this arrangement himself).
Formally, Jphwra broke the scope of his limited adminship and performed a deletion of the page that hadn’t been vandalized. While the admin action in question isn’t incorrect itself, it does formally violate the scope of Jphwra’s adminship and thus admin rights should be removed per the initial terms. --Aced (talk) 12:51, 31 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
- In fact, it was a petty act, the removal of an erroneously created category. I do not think this is a sufficient reason for deprivation of rights. --Yakudza (talk) 13:55, 31 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
