Steward requests/Permissions

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
This is an archived version of this page, as edited by Micke (talk | contribs) at 18:22, 12 June 2008 (→‎Ainali@sv.wikinews ). It may differ significantly from the current version .
This page enables stewards to handle permissions requests, including the giving and taking of administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights, for all Wikimedia wikis which do not have a local permissions procedure. If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (see the index of request pages). Requests for bot status, URL blacklisting and whitelisting, and CheckUser queries belong elsewhere.

Interface-translations are done at Betawiki.

For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewards connect IRC channel (see a web-based IRC client). In emergencies only, type !steward in the channel to inform stewards that you need help.

Please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Confirmation of identity

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to confirm their identity. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also submit the relevant identification to the Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until receipt has been formally confirmed by the office.

Instructions for how you can confirm your identity can be found at: Steward handbook/email templates.

For stewards: Identification noticeboard.

Thanks for the local request, lets give it some time to see if someone responds, I'd say a 3 months period to start would be fine then, what do You think? --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 12:50, 11 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]
the last activity is marked on may...it had been put for closure but i motivated the position of this wiki. it's a long term project; there is a lack of contribution but things are going ahead.i'm looking for contributions and documents, medias freely available, distribuable or donations for the library :-); i do think things will go better when all needed translations will be done (availability for wiktionary, wikiquote and wikversity); closing them is a heavy damage for our emerging language.

@ht.s: See Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Haitian Creole Wikisource and bugzilla:13967, please consider to contribute to oldwikisource until there is some activity to revive that project. The articles are then not lost, but can be imported easily.
@ht.w: I see, You have temp-status on ht.wiki still, I would suggest 6 months this time then. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 13:25, 11 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]
Ok, allrights; i continue my contributions, notably to translations; that's not easy, there's so much to say and to do and so little contributions for a community larger than 15 millions haitian creole spoken persons (Haiti-Canada-USA ..etc) ,that's a pity; but things are going ahead. thank you Masterches 13:34, 11 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]
Done (ht.wikipedia) expires: 12-12-2008, I have removed Your temporary rights on ht.wikisource, since it makes no sense, it is not possible to edit there right now, please consider to contribute to old wikisource until the project can be revived, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 09:21, 12 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

Girmitya@hifwikipedia

I request sysop access.

Thank you. Girmitya 02:39, 9 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

The community is still very small, so temporary admin permissions might be better. Would you agree to a six-month temporary adminship? You can hold another vote then if you think the community is sufficiently larger, or come back in 6 month's time to request another temporary adminship term.--Shanel 03:30, 9 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]
Yes, I agree that a temporary admin will be best at this stage, but I assume that another vote could be held before the six-month term expires. Girmitya 13:19, 9 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

  • On hold. I see two admins [2] while they have made no edits recently. Please link to your local request and user pages, or I cannot approve your request. Once you make a local request, I will consider the community opinion. Thanks.--Jusjih 01:08, 2 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

Hello Chabi, since the community seems to be too small to hold a regular voting, I would suggest You ask for temporary sysop status, it is technically the same, You just check back some days before it expires to prolong it or if the community grows in the meantime, You can hold a regular voting. I would say, lets make 3 months for a start, what do You think? Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 09:17, 12 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

Dsvyas@gu.wiki

I request sysop access.

I have been the only active Sysop on gu.wiki for last 4-5 months, I have been granted temp admin rights twice in past (first time 1.5 month and then 3 months). As the community is very small, there is not enough voting on the nomination page, but still I could get 4 votes in my favor. Community is growing day by day, when I started there were hardly 400 pages, now within this 4-5 months, we have crossed 1000 pages, this is I think because of my active participation as well as other User's contributions. I would appreciate if you could grant me permanent Admin rights on the basis of 4 votes (all in favor), as the community is small and number of contributors is even law.

Thank you. Dhaval Talk 11:32, 12 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

Hello Dhaval, what do You think about a 6 months period this time, as You said the community still is small and I think when it grows there can be of course held voting, what do You think, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 16:52, 12 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]
Hi Birdy, I don't mind having 6 months (once again temp), but don't want to get fed up with this repeatedly asking for access, as you can see there is no other Admin than me active for more than last 6 months, in this case, I don't know what can be the constraint for not granting permanent ADmin with 4 votes, I remember, last time I was told that as the community is small, even if i coudl get 5 votes, I'll get Permanent, and 4 is much more close to 5. Have a think on it and let me know. I would rather after 6 months give up asking for extension if the only reason for temp is that the community is small.--Dhaval Talk 17:08, 12 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]
Hello Dhaval, the last thing I want to is to fed You up. Please understand this is only to prevent problems in growing communities we have seen in the past. I would like to propose You, lets make it temp for 6 months this time and after six months if everything is fine and the voting has not changed or change to Your favor lets make it permanent, could You agree to that without giving up? --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 17:44, 12 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

Bureaucrat access

See bureaucrat for information about the position.

Ainali@sv.wikinews

We request Bureaucrat access in sv.wiknews.org for user Ainali.

There is no point in waiting any longer with the vote since almost every active user has already voted (everyone agrees that Ainali should be made bureaucrat). Our excisting 'crat is almost never there any more and there is no telling when and if Väsk will turn up to do the work so we request a steward to do this for us. --MiCkE d b 15:37, 12 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

Not done. Hello MiCkE, please can You ask the local crat Väsk, [4] as he is not inactive (if You don't catch him on wikinews, please consider to talk to him at wp [5]), tack :) --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 16:55, 12 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

Symane and Vipuser@ganwikipedia

We request Bureaucrat access@ganwikipedia. We are the site proposal users and the main editors of gan wikipedia in incubator site. When the gan wikipedia built formally in May 26th, we need the founction of bureaucrat rights to authorize the bot request and maintence the interface of the site. so we nominate two users requesting bureaucrat rights in the site and win common sense of serveral users including the acceptence of the native speaker proposal users. So please authorize the bureaucrat access to Symane and Vipuser. The main work of Symane is maintence of the interface, and vipuser is responsible for dealing the request of bots and site maintence affairs . Thanks very much!

Thank you!--Vipuser 14:05, 8 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

On hold: Now not sysop in ganwikipedia--Shizhao 14:13, 10 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]
What should we do now?--Vipuser 17:08, 10 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]
Shizhao, Note that 1. These two guys are experienced wikipedians. They are supported by the gan: community and they will use these tools well. 2. The English wikiversity started with temporary a sysop and a temporary bureaucrat; it worked well and nobody has complained. 3. These guys have valid reasons to request bureaucratships. 4. Requests for bureaucratship are local affairs. The only question should be whether there is an active community supporting each request. The community should decide for themselves whether it is acceptable for somebody to become a bureaucrat straightaway. Hillgentleman 17:25, 10 June 2008 (UTC) - note: by "strightaway" I mean "without having been a sysop locally". Hillgentleman 17:40, 10 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]
Not really. Sometimes stewards don't give bureaucratship on small projects — VasilievV 2 17:27, 10 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]
Please be specific on not really what. Hillgentleman 17:28, 10 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

CheckUser access

To request CheckUser information, see Request for CheckUser information. This is the place to request CheckUser access. Note that temporary CheckUser access is not permitted.

Stewards: When someone asks for CheckUser status, please check the current policy regarding bestowal of status before giving the status. Do not grant CheckUser access unless the user is identified to the foundation, which will be announced here. Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list (the list may contain confidential information), and make sure they contact an op for access to #wikimedia-checkuser.

Oversight access

Do not initiate an oversight request here. The Arbitration Committee will make the request once there is consensus on the local wiki (this process is currently for en-Wikipedia only).

Stewards: Do not grant Oversight access unless the user is identified to the foundation, which will be announced here. When you give someone oversight access, list them on Hiding revisions.

Removal of access

If you want to request that your own status be removed, please don't forget to place a note on your local user talk page (preferably with an English translation). This is required to prove your identity. And then add the request here. You should add the difflink of your local confirmation edit to the request.

To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a very brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion.

Copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

==== Username@language-code project-name ====

*'''Language Code:''' xx
*'''Local Confirmation/Request Link:''' <!--Difflink of the local confirmation edit (for own requests), or link to the community decision-->
*'''Local User Page:''' [[xx:User:Example]]
Thank you. ~~~~

Please summarize your request in the "summary".

Temporary permissions for emergency or technical purposes

If you are requesting administrator status to make a translation of the wiki interface, see also the BetaWiki project, which seeks to make a neutral MediaWiki translation that will then be default for all wikis. That is more useful than only making a local translation. You can ask questions in the IRC channel or in the mailing list. See also MediaWiki localisation. If you are requesting adminship to handle one-time vandalism incidents or clearing a deletion backlog, please see Vandalism reports and Multilingual speedy deletions.

Stewards: Currently active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary. When granting a request, please copy the request to the appropriate section there, and clearly state the date of removal. Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage.

Copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the list of sysops and bureaucrats, local request link, link to your local user page, and the preferred duration with a reason. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

Hello Diego pmc, as said a bit above, I would like to see a local request for this, because I can see at least one sysop and other people in the recent changes. I have seen, You contacted the local sysop about it. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 08:44, 2 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]
I asked, and am waiting for an answer, but he avoids to give it, wihout making a clear position. And furthermore, he doesn't give attention to my suggestions regarding different needed updates of the .css, which if they were listened, or given more attention (prove me they are not needed), I wouldn't have asked for adminship. How long should I wait for his answer, before asking here again? diego_pmc 12:54, 2 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]
Sorry but if they decide not to update the css. it is their decision, You could try to make a request in the village pump if the request site stays protected. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 13:04, 2 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

Yep, You can add also bots of other botowners, temporary bureaucrat status is only given in very very special cases (because making it temporary is rather senseless, since one could then change the rights of other users), rather not, also it is mostly done like: first sysop then crat, in this case please add the bots to be flagged to the request page on meta. But I can see there is no sysop in gan.wiki [7]. Please if You need sysop status, just say so, I would be happy to give You that flag, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 10:40, 11 June 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

Miscellaneous requests

Requests that don't fit in other sections belong here. Note that the following types of requests belong on separate pages: bot status, URL blacklisting and whitelisting, and requests for CheckUser queries. If you want to have your Meta username changed, please go to Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat. If you want to have changed a username on a Wikimedia wiki without bureaucrats, please go to Requests for username changes.(Existing requests have been moved to the appropriate page.)

Reminder

  • Import rights can be granted by stewards only, not bureaucrats, so the automatic list of local bureaucrats is irrelevant for this.
  • Usurpation requests should be placed at Steward requests/Usurpation.
  • Username changes should be placed at Requests for username changes.
  • Please make sure you have your accounts renamed before merging them.
