Wikimania

Wikimania is a regular conference for users of the wiki projects operated by the Wikimedia Foundation. The first conference was held in Frankfurt, Germany, on August 4-8, 2005. The second conference was held in Boston, USA, on August 4-6, 2006 and the third one was held in Taipei, Taiwan, on August 3-5, 2007.

The deadline for officially entering bids for Wikimania 2008 was August 30 2007. On October 9, the jury chose Alexandria as the location for Wikimania, and it will be held from 17-19 July 2008.

The bidding process for Wikimania 2009 is expected to take place soon after the 2008 decision is made. Official bids for 2009 are listed here, and new bids cannot be submitted.

Wikimania 2005 was held in Frankfurt am Main from 4 to 8 August 2005.

A separate hacking days session for MediaWiki software developers and Wikimedia hardware maintainers was held on August 1-3. Researchers and speakers presented studies and experiments on Wikipedia and other projects operated by the Wikimedia Foundation, on wiki culture and technology, and on the world of free knowledge. The program included presentations, workshops, and tutorials to give an overview of the current state of research on wikis and free knowledge projects.

Wikimania 2006 was held in Boston in USA on August 4-6, 2006.
