Pappus Spiral
PappusSpiral
The Pappus spiral is the name given to the conical spiral with parametric equations
x(t) = asin(alphat)cost
(1)
y(t) = asin(alphat)sint
(2)
x(t) = acos(alphat)
(3)
by Ferréol. It was studied by Pappus in the 4th century BC, Pascal in 1779, and Chasles in 1843 (Ferréol).
It is essentially the same as the "general form" of the conical spiral.
