I just tested this with the install iso from a recent NetBSD current build
without issues. One thing, however, is this:
 images[2]$disklabel /dev/vnd0
 ...
 4 partitions:
 # size offset fstype [fsize bsize cpg/sgs]
 a: 848036 0 ISO9660 0 # (Cyl. 0 - 414*)
 d: 848036 0 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 0 - 414*)
 disklabel: boot block size 0
 disklabel: super block size 0
Notice the fstype for partition a is ISO9660. Yours reports 4.2BSD:

You could try mounting vnd0a as ffs.
