Oh, maybe because I'm confused? 
From a brief conversation with Christos, I (mis?)understood that there's
something wrong with /usr/mdec/bootxx_ffsv1 and/or /boot in 3.0. I take
it from your surprise that there's nothing wrong with them per se, but
rather that they were somehow installed without setting the console to
com0. I can still restore the 3.0 files. Is that your advice?
