I'm not 100% on that one, but it does sound like a good idea. I don't
remember a machine I used which didn't have this information and i use
KDE a lot.
Also, if you aren't using the KDM, can you just put startkde into your
.xinitrc and type startx? Does KDE work then? If not, you have other
problems, not KDM problems...
