I've been mostly steering clear of the metaphysical and writing code today. ;-) An extremely rough patch has been uploaded: http://bugs.python.org/issue20284 I have a new one almost ready that introduces __ascii__ rather than overloading __format__. I like it better, will upload to issue tracker soon.
