Data point: I use -O.1 Not frequently, not usually, but I have a few large2 programs that I add features to from time to time and will doubtless continue to do so. I need their __debug__-enabled diagnostics and asserts during development and testing. When I run them "for real", I use -O. Of course, since I never use annotations, type hints or whatever, this may not be very relevant to this thread.

2 Your idea of "large" may not be the same as mine - I'm talking a few thousand lines.
