Born in the year 1933 to the couple Moitheenkunju - Sainaba at Kannur. Completed his matriculation and then learnt music for 4 years under his first master Venugopal Bhagavathar. With his great devotion to music, he practiced Hindustani music under Valapattanam Muhammed, Sharadchandra Marathe, Kasargod Kumar.

Ummer was also a football player with Spirited Youth at Kannur. One of his classmate, Dr. Pavithran introduced Ummer to Dr. Balakrishnan who initiated a play at Madras Malayala Samajam wherein the songs of P. Bhaskaran were handed over to Ummer for music composition. This composition took him to greater heights and he composed music for the malayalam movie 'Thalirukal'.

The first song rendition 'Akaashaveedhiyil...' sung by Yesudas was the stepping stone of success for him. He composed music for 174 movies. With innumerable contribution of songs to the film industry he won the Kerala State Award for the songs in movie 'Aalinganam'. The evergreen song 'Neelajalashayathil' from movie Angeekaaram won the Kollam Film Fans award and the song 'Oru Mayilpeeliyaayi' from the movie Aniyaatha valakal was awarded the Madras Film Fans award.

Ummer is married and has a son.This gread musician Died on 2001 October 18th.
