analyzing X11 traffic?

What do you all use for analyzing or watching X11 traffic?
Today I played with ethereal but it had a lot of unknown.
And then I used Debian's xtrace under NetBSD. (I had to patch a few
Linuxism.)
xtrace seems useful. I also used Xnest so I could trace a window manager.
(I learned that the window manager I am using continuously does
QueryPointer :(
What do you use for watching X11 communications?
