Bug Description
Quantal Server and Alternate 20120626
When debian-installer starts (i.e when the page 'Select a language' in a default install or 'Main menu' in a expert install) the external USB keyboard stops working (key do not respond, leds are dead) like is USB was disabled.
The keyboard works fine in the initial boot menu and I'm able to change any option.
On a laptop with an internal keyboard and an external keyboard, the internal keyboard continue working but the external keyboard stops.

Almost certainly the kernel isn't delivering the modules we need in udebs. Please boot a desktop image and post 'lsmod' output so that we can make a guess at what it should be.
- lsmod_during_installation.out Edit (430 bytes, text/plain)
lsmod output during installation, when the external keyboard is not working
- lsmod_after_installation.out Edit (2.0 KiB, text/plain)
lsmod from the same system after installation with a working external keyboard.
- lsmod_desktop_livesession.out Edit (3.1 KiB, text/plain)
And the output from a live session with a working external keyboard.
I've added hid-generic to the d-i input-modules file. This should resolve this bug. Will upload this fix momentarily.
I reported dup bug 1017635 but I'd not tried any live images at that time. I'm now testing the Ubuntu live 20120626.1 iso and after completing "check disc" (results successful) I'm unable to use the keyboard to continue.
So I'm using this bug # to report a failure, if that's incorrect I'll be glad to start a new bug report ;^)
Regarding the aforementioned Ubuntu live 20120626.1 iso (i386 BTW) I used the reset button to reboot, let the boot process continue to the point I had to choose between "try" and "install" and all seems well as far as the USB keyboard working. BTW this is a desktop puter, not a lappy :^)
- Screenshot from 2012年06月26日 15:57:23.png Edit (662.0 KiB, image/png)
Probably unrelated but I got a crash report on the live desktop, screenshot attached.

Probably unrelated but I got a crash report on the live desktop, screenshot attached.
No idea why that double posted :^(
I can assure it wasn't due to any action by me, but I posted that from the same aforementioned Ubuntu live image.
Erick, thanks for all your testing. I filed bug 1017991 for the 'check disk' issue, A fix is being uploaded. Could you file a report against apport for the bug in your screenshot.
Thanks in advance.
@ jibel, I was trying to report that bug when I got what's shown in the screenshot. I picked through the logs and was unable to find anything useful :^(
So that was basically apport telling me, sorry but you're on your own :^(
I guess I could try filing a bug against casper to see if it reveals anything.
OK, filed bug 1018032. Not much I can add other than the screenshot.
This bug was fixed in the package linux - 3.5.0-2.2
