As a long-time Drupal developer, consultant, and otherwise ambassador of all things Drupal, I have to say that there are many things that are just simply "not there" when it comes to the essential modules needed to compete in many instances, with say... Wordpress.
Take internet marketing for example - As someone who has all but sworn off Wordpress, I find myself actually thinking of using it for some of my projects, just because all the best plugins for marketing automation, social media integration, etc. are made (and maintained) for Wordpress.
Something like Instagram... I hate to say this but, it's a little sad that we don't have a solid module for Drupal 8 that will successfully and easily integrate Instagram and display as a block. This is the same for many other essential integrations or functions that are so commonplace.
I have clients that want to do things in their Drupal site but when I tell them that it will take a lot of custom development to make it happen because there is no (stable/current/maintained) module that will do it, they often reply saying "well my competitor has this on their website" and when I look, sure enough... Wordpress!
I think that Drupal should have a team, separate from the developers that work in core, that is dedicated to developing and maintaining a core set of modules that will allow us to compete in the internet marketing (and others) space. I would love to have this discussion on here and get others' thoughts...
