Delete backups older than a given duration, e.g. older than one year.

Thin out older backups: keep only one per month of backups older than one year? (The oldest, or the newest, within that month? It needs to stay stable if this policy is repeatedly applied.)

Delete enough old backups to free up x MB of space?
