Further issues to LCDChar screen #2136

@rern
Following the changes you made yesterday the LCDChar screen is now working EXCEPT:

If the Idle Sleep option is enabled the display freezes, as does the on-screen config dialogue box. The only way to get it working again is to delete the $dirsystem/lcdchar.json file and then reconfigure the LCDChar screen when a new lcdchar.json file is recreated.

When a web radio is playing which has no metadata a pattern of 3 x 3 dots is shown on the screen but the elapsed time and rAudio logo are shown. Conversely when such a station is stopped then the station name and URL are displayed. If no metadata is available then it would make sense to show the station/URL all the time if possible. For stations with metadata (ie Radio Paradise) and albums then the metadata is shown correctly.

Thanks again for fixing this issue. The Idle Sleep option does indeed seem to work with the latest UPDATE branch.

However, radio stations with no metadata still shows a 3 x 3 matrix of dots when the radio is playing but reverts to the station information (what there is of it) when stopped.

Thanks.

I am not sure what has happened with the latest UPDATE branch (as at 08:20 BST 28/07/26) but the web radio stations with no metadata now just show the 3 x 3 dot matrix regardless of whether playing or stopped (previously stopped showed the basic station information). Stations with metadata show correctly.

Issue noted in previous reply regarding radio stations with no metadata is still unresolved in 20260801.

Just to add that that this issue also affects desktop and touchscreen displays with 20260801.

Can't say I have seen this or think where something similar might appear ?

After update and reboot, the station name no longer appears in the Artist line when playing (just shows 3 dots), but appears when stopped.
Your reply spurred me to look into this further, and for some reason the station I chose to test with is the only one which has the problem. Looking with ffprobe doesn't show anything obvious, so I will wait until your report is resolved and start a new thread if the problem is still there.

The latest UPDATE branch (as at 09:40 BST) fixes my problem with the LCD screen for web radio station with no metadata. However stations WITH metadata (eg Radio Paradise) show a completely blank screen when playing but show the Radio Paradise basic info (Station Name and stream web address) when stopped.

Thanks for your efforts, this seems a bit tricky to resolve.

Seeing that you had made further changes to the web radio setup (in the UPDATE branch) I applied the latest UPDATE branch (as at 09:05 BST Aug 11) to my test rig. The LCD screen is now totally blank for all radio stations AND album/track info for playing album. I am however seeing the rAudio logo on the LCD screen when the system powers up or reboots :-)

Investigating further it seems that the Library / Web Radio listing is all mixed up with the stream url being shown as the station name and the Station Name being shown as the stream url. It isn't possible to correct this with the edit dialogue. Nor is it possible to add new stations.

This may also account for the problems reported in #2149.

Applying UPDATE branch as at 09:20 BST Aug 28th, the LCD Panel does now seem to be working and the basic web radio listing is shown correctly.
